EXECUTIVE
DBA
DOCTORATE OF BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION
Programme Content
The DBA is divided into two parts:
Theory and Research
(approximately two years)
This period comprises research training workshops which
provide participants with expertise in research methods
research design, data-collection and data analysis
techniques. Participants will produce a state-of-the-art
literature review, a detailed research proposal and a pilot
research project. They are trained to conduct, write up and
disseminate high quality research of doctoral standard. As a
result they will learn to think critically and link practice to
theory and vice versa. Individuals will achieve a greater level
of effectiveness as practitioners in managing business
innovation, technology and change.
Faculty Expertise
Both IdM-SSSA and GEM bring together faculty with a broad range of
expertise and an international reputation in research on business
innovation, technology management and the organisational dimensions of
technology change.
The workshops are led by faculty from both institutions who are
international leaders in their fields. In addition to this there are periodic
workshop contributions from alumni and guest speakers from industry.
Research and Thesis
(approximately two years)
During this period participants undertake research which is
built upon the research proposal and pilot project conducted
in the first part of the programme. The overall outcome is
the publication of a doctoral thesis, which is subject to an
oral examination. In addition, attendance to other events
(short workshops, conferences and doctoral symposia)
organised as part of the programme is also encouraged.
Istituto di
Management
Istituto di Management (IdM) is part of the
Scuola Sant'Anna and operates in the field of
management in private and public organizations,
with particular focus on management of
innovation, sustainability and health.
During the last decade it has developed
towards:
1. innovation in technological change,
organizational change, cultural change and
political and institutional change
2. an interdisciplinary approach in teaching
and research
3. the use of quantitative evidence to support
decision making processes
IdM aims at:
- finding the right balance between carrying
out international scientific research and
innovative projects with academic as well as
non academic partners
- increasing interdisciplinarity, for example
with Engineering (technology assessment,
training, research), Medicine (health management,
medical technology, transplantation),
Agrarian studies (energy), Political Sciences
(internationalization), and Law (insurance,
patents, environmental and public services
regulation)
- contributing to companies’ competitiveness
through research results and innovative
education initiatives
Grenoble Ecole de
Management
Located in the heart of “Europole” business
district and next to the World Trade Center,
Grenoble Ecole de Management was founded
in 1984. It is one of Europe’s top Management
Schools and offers 20 different
programmes including the DBA which
incorporate the concepts of Management,
Technology and Innovation.
Three accreditations distinguish the best
business schools in the world Grenoble Ecole
de Management is one of the few to hold all
three:
a) Association to Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business (AACSB)
b) European Quality Improvement System
(EQUIS)
c) Association of MBAs (AMBA)
These independent evaluations guarantee
that the content and the quality of the
programmes satisfy international standards.
The Grenoble DBA is one of the first European
DBAs to be accepted more than a decade ago
in the leading European Doctoral programmes
Association in Management and Business
Administration (EDAMBA). The Grenoble DBA
is fully accredited by AMBA.
The advancement of managerial knowledge
requires close and continuous interaction between
theory and ongoing practice. Participation in the
joint DBA will become an occasion to develop new
research activities and to apply consolidate and
emerging theories to business practices.
“ Our strengths are the interdisciplinary
approach and the strong coordination
with business actors”
