22.4.1 Balanced diet
Now that you are aware of the components of diet, try to analyze your own food intake.
Do you include all the food components in your diet?
For healthy growth and development, you need to eat foods that provide all the essential
nutrients in the correct proportion. Eating a variety of foods in proper quantity every
day constitutes a balanced diet. A balanced diet contains adequate amounts of essential
nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. The
proportion may depend on age, sex, pregnancy etc.
