This Card is your quick reference to your Allotment Rules.
For full rules please refer to your signed copy of your Tenancy
Agreement
MEMBERS
Every Member shall be aware of the terms of their Tenancy Agreement
with the Council and will observe all the conditions laid down in the
tenancy agreement.
Members will be held responsible for the due observance of these rules
by their visitors.
USE OF LAND
The land shall only be used for horticultural purposes. The land shall not
be used for:-
a) Any commercial purpose
b) Keeping pigeons except where notified to the Council in the
tenancy agreement
c) Keeping horses or other animals except where notified to the
Council in the tenancy agreement
d) Keeping ducks or geese except where notified to the Council in the
tenancy agreement
e) Keeping Cockerels
f) Storage of vehicles of any description including caravan, mobile
home or trailer (of any size).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plots shall be kept weed free and at least two thirds will be cultivated.
In the interests of safety, plot holders, shall act in a manner so as not to
cause danger or injury to themselves or others.
Plot holders must act in such a manner so as not to cause a nuisance or
annoyance to the local community, occupants of adjoining properties or
any other plot holders.
Dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times and faeces
are to be collected and disposed of in a proper manner. Any allotment
holder not complying will face eviction and Members of the public will be
issued with a fine.

THE SITE SECRETARY WILL
a) Maintain a list of all members names and addresses. Such lists
are to be made available to the Town Council annually after the
site AGM.
b) Maintain a waiting list of prospective tenants and vacant plots will
be allocated in strict rotation by date of application. Application to
be put on
the waiting list must be made in writing, to the Site Secretary.
c) Ensure that an up to date waiting list is displayed on the
site/noticeboard including the date on which it was displayed
signed by the Steward/Secretary.
ERECTION OF SHEDS, GREEN HOUSES, POLY TUNNELS OR
OTHER STRUCTURES
Applications to erect a shed, greenhouse, poly tunnel or other
permanent structure must be made in writing together with a sketch plan
showing the proposed dimensions to the Site Secretary who will seek
the approval or otherwise of the Town Council’s Allotment Committee.
Any buildings or structures erected without the Council’s permission will
amount to a breach of this tenancy agreement and notice to quit may be
issued.
An application for a swap must be made in writing to the site steward
who will seek the approval or otherwise of the Town Council’s Allotment
Committee.
If an allotment tenancy is terminated, then the outgoing tenant can offer
any structure to the incoming tenant taken from the waiting list in strict
date of application. If the new tenant does not wish to retain the structure
then the outgoing tenant is required to remove the structure at their own
expense within 28 days of vacating their tenancy. Failure to comply will
result in a charge being made to the retiring tenant by Spennymoor
Town Council for the removal/clearing of the plot. UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES can the outgoing tenant make the purchase of any
structure a condition of tenancy to the incoming tenant.
