<strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science in 1993. The prize may<br />

be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate<br />

to a final year student(s) adjudged <strong>academic</strong>ally<br />

<strong>the</strong> most outstanding in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science<br />

who should have obtained least 4.0 CGPA. The<br />

student(s) should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable conduct. The<br />

prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books worth P200<br />

chosen by <strong>the</strong> winner and a shield. The name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> recipient will be inscribed on <strong>the</strong> shield to be<br />

placed in <strong>the</strong> Dean’s <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

This prize was established in 1984 and was<br />

Faculty <strong>of</strong> Humanities in 1992. The prize may be<br />

awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate to a<br />

final year student(s) adjudged <strong>academic</strong>ally <strong>the</strong><br />

most outstanding in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Humanities,<br />

who should have obtained least 4.0 CGPA. The<br />

student(s) should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable conduct. The<br />

prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books worth P200<br />

chosen by <strong>the</strong> winner and a shield. The name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> recipient will be inscribed on <strong>the</strong> shield to be<br />

placed in <strong>the</strong> Dean’s <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

This prize was established in 1984 and was<br />

funded by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>academic</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty <strong>of</strong> Social Sciences in 1992. The prize may<br />

be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate<br />

to a final year student(s) adjudged <strong>academic</strong>ally<br />

<strong>the</strong> most outstanding in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Social<br />

Sciences who should have obtained least 4.0<br />

CGPA. The student(s) should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable<br />

conduct. The prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books<br />

worth P200 chosen by <strong>the</strong> winner and a shield.<br />

The name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipient will be inscribed on <strong>the</strong><br />

11. Dean’s Prize: Faculty <strong>of</strong> Business<br />

This prize was established in 2001 and was funded<br />

by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>academic</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />

Business in 2000. The prize may be awarded annually<br />

by <strong>the</strong> University Senate to a final year student<br />

adjudged <strong>academic</strong>ally <strong>the</strong> most outstanding in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Business who should have obtained<br />

least 4.0 CGPA. The student should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable<br />

conduct. The prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> cash to<br />

<strong>the</strong> value <strong>of</strong> P400, a shield and a Certificate <strong>of</strong><br />

Outstanding Performance signed by <strong>the</strong> Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty. The name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipient will be inscribed on<br />

<strong>the</strong> shield to be placed in <strong>the</strong> Dean’s <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

12. Deloitte and Touche Prize<br />

This prize was established in 1994 through<br />

a donation from <strong>the</strong> Deloitte and Touche<br />

Accounting Firm. The prize may be awarded<br />

annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate to <strong>the</strong> best<br />

final year all round Accountancy student. The<br />

prize will be P1,500 cash.<br />

13. De Beers Private Sector Trust Prize<br />

This prize was established in 1996 through a<br />

generous donation from <strong>the</strong> De Beers Botswana<br />

(Pty) Ltd. to <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Botswana. The<br />

prize may be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University<br />

Senate to <strong>the</strong> best graduating degree MBA<br />

student(s) who have obtained <strong>the</strong> highest overall<br />

minimum average <strong>of</strong> 70 percent. The recipient<br />

should have had a clean <strong>academic</strong> record and<br />

also should not have repeated a course or have<br />

been <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> disciplinary action while a<br />

student. In <strong>the</strong> event that a graduating student<br />

with <strong>the</strong> highest overall average is disqualified<br />

from winning this prize because <strong>of</strong> disciplinary<br />

action, <strong>the</strong> prize will be awarded to <strong>the</strong> next best<br />

graduating student with <strong>the</strong> best marks. The<br />

prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books worth P1,000<br />

and a floating imbua plaque on which <strong>the</strong> name<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipient(s) shall be inscribed.<br />

14. British High Commissioner’s Prize<br />

This prize was established in 1990 through a<br />

donation from <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>n British High Commissioner<br />

Mr. Brian Smith. The prize may be awarded<br />

annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate to a final<br />

year degree student(s) adjudged <strong>academic</strong>ally<br />

<strong>the</strong> most outstanding in ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />

Education (Department <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics and<br />

Science) or <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science. The student(s)<br />

should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable conduct. The prize will<br />

be a floating trophy.<br />

15. The Builders World Prize<br />

This prize was established in 1995 with seed<br />

money donated by Builders World Botswana<br />

(Pty) Ltd. The prize may be awarded annually<br />

to <strong>the</strong> most outstanding final year BSc Degree<br />

female student in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science with<br />

a degree classification <strong>of</strong> at least 2(i). The prize<br />

will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books worth P200 and a<br />

floating shield engraved with <strong>the</strong> donor’s and<br />

winner’s(s’) names.<br />

16. The John Cooke Prize for Environmental<br />

Conservation<br />

This prize was established in 1993 in honour<br />

<strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor John H. Cooke (Founding Head <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Environmental Science). It<br />

was established with money collected by <strong>the</strong><br />

Department. The prize may be awarded annually<br />

to <strong>the</strong> best graduating student in Environmental<br />

Science with a degree classification <strong>of</strong> at least 2(ii)<br />

and a record <strong>of</strong> active interest in environmental<br />

issues. The prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books<br />

worth P200 selected by <strong>the</strong> winner.<br />

17. Botswana Institute <strong>of</strong> Accountants Prize<br />

(BIA)<br />

This prize was established in 1994 through a<br />

generous donation to <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Botswana<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Botswana Institute <strong>of</strong> Accountants. The<br />

prize may be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University<br />

Senate to <strong>the</strong> most outstanding graduating<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Accountancy Motswana student(s)<br />

who must have obtained least 4.0 CGPA. The<br />

prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> books worth P300, a<br />

shield for <strong>the</strong> winner with his/her name inscribed<br />

on it and a floating shield on which <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> recipient(s) shall be inscribed.<br />

18. CISNA ‘93 Information Technology Prize:<br />

Computer Science<br />

This prize was established in 1996 through<br />

a donation from <strong>the</strong> CISNA ‘93 Conference<br />

Organising Committee. The prize may be<br />

awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate<br />

to <strong>the</strong> best final year degree student in <strong>the</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Computer Science with at least<br />

4.0 CGPA. The student(s) should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable<br />

conduct. The prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> P500<br />

cash and a floating shield on which <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> recipient and prize will be inscribed.<br />

19. CISNA ‘93 Information Technology Prize:<br />

Engineering and Technology<br />

This prize was established in 1996 through<br />

a donation from <strong>the</strong> CISNA ‘93 Conference<br />

Organising Committee. The prize may be awarded<br />

annually by <strong>the</strong> University Senate to <strong>the</strong> best<br />

final year degree student(s) in <strong>the</strong> Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Engineering and Technology with at least 4.0<br />

CGPA. The student(s) should be <strong>of</strong> acceptable<br />

conduct. The prize will be in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> P500<br />

cash and a floating shield on which <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> recipient(s) and prize will be inscribed.<br />

20. Michael Crowder Prize for History and<br />

Archaeology<br />

This prize was established in 1996 and was funded<br />

by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>academic</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History<br />

Department, well-wishers and supporters. The<br />

prize may be awarded by <strong>the</strong> University Senate<br />
