Following the day’s educational session, attendees
were treated to a Saturday evening
medieval tournament and feast at Medieval
Times.
The final day of the conference concluded with
more educational sessions important to pet sitters:
• President-elect John D’Ariano and a representative
of the Long Beach Police
Department held a session, “Personal
Safety and Security,” that educated participants
on tips and tools for staying safe
and secure on the job.
• In her presentation, “Pet Loss and Grief:
Implications for Providing Compassionate
Care,” Betty Carmack, RN, EdD, CT,
Professor Emerita, provided practical
examples for the professional pet sitter to
support clients compassionately through
the challenging time of losing a loved animal
companion. Following her presentation,
Ms. Carmack was available to sign
copies of her book, “Grieving the Death of
a Pet.”
• Pet Edu-Tainer Arden Moore’s session,
“It’s Cool to Be Catty,” delivered insights
into the feline mystique. Joined by her
feline companion, Callie, Arden addressed
practical tips and creative ways to connect
with cats and provided attendees
with an opportunity to obtain signed
copies of her latest books.
• Kat Albrecht’s workshop, “What to do if an
Animal Escapes Your Care” provided tips
on locating a lost pet while salvaging the
relationship with the client.

Attendees came away renewed, armed with
new knowledge and a new support network.
