MODERN FOREIGN
LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT
As we stood waiting in the cold at 2 o’clock in the morning, we knew that this was going to be
worth it. Accompanied by 4 teachers, 40 pupils got on the coach for Heathrow. Here a two hour
flight took us to the sunny Spanish city of Barcelona. When we arrived we were greeted by glorious
Spanish weather: rain! Staying in a hotel in Tossa de Mar, we spent all of the four full days taking part in
as many activities and visits as possible. From the comedy that was provided by the Flamenco dance
lessons to the excitement and thrill of the Port Aventura theme park, we managed to experience the best
of what was on offer. We also visited the picturesque town of Gerona, the centre of Barcelona and the Dali
Theatre Museum at Figueres.
These activities alone would have made an amazing visit, but Mrs Daiko
had gone one step further in organising a visit for us to the Camp Nou
Stadium. Walking through the tunnel and emerging into the colossal
arena, some of us nearly shed a tear as we imagined the emotion of
playing in front of 90,000 fans. A truly special moment!
The 2012 visit to Spain provided everything that a school trip could. It
also allowed us to experience Spanish culture, practise our speaking
skills and absorb the sights and sounds of Spain.
Adios Mrs Daiko!
The Modern Foreign Languages Department would like to say a huge
‘Gracias’ to Mrs Daiko for all her hard work over the last 19 years in the
Modern Foreign Languages department. Mrs Daiko introduced
Spanish in the School in 1993 and has built up a highly
successful department.
