MUSIC AT THE CATHEDRAL
LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING celebrated Black History Month and
featured the Cathedral Choir and guest soloists, Melody Parker
and Cherie Buckner-Webb, on February 20 at the Cathedral.

FIRST LENTEN LUNCHEON
ON FRIDAY
Lenten Luncheons are sponsored by
Episcopal Church Women
(ECW), and they welcome
staffers of both genders
to help wait tables, bus the
tables, bake pies, and
numerous other tasks.
Luncheons are held on six Fridays
beginning March 11 through April 15
from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The cost for soup, salad, cheese
bread and beverage is $6.00 and add a
piece of homemade pie for $2.50.
Call Linda Swanson at 345-0006 to
volunteer at the luncheons or for more
information. To volunteer as wait staff,
call Lori Ode at 426-0891.
On Thursdays before each luncheon,
pie baking begins at 9:00 a.m. in the
Tuttle House kitchen. All bakers are
welcome!
There is a need for pie tins and
spring-form pan bottoms. Donations of
quart canning jars are also being
requested for left-over soup and chowder.
Parishioners may donate these
items in the Tuttle House kitchen or
drop them off at the Cathedral office.

St. Michael’s offers a monthly payment
plan to parishioners
for purchase
of space in the
Cathedral Garden
Columbarium.
At the beginning
of the contract
period, an initial
payment would be
made. In each month following, a
predetermined monthly amount would
be paid to St. Michael’s, until the
terms of the contract are completed.
The use of Columbarium space
would be available to the purchaser
only after all monthly payments are
made.

Shop is an outreach ministry
of the Cathedral and
recently supported the

In February, the shop helped
Agency for New Americans with cookware,
towels and blankets. Ibrahim
from Uzbekistan came to help pick up
donations and expressed his gratitude
for the assistance the shop offers to
refugees.

4 TH GRADE BIBLES - St. Michael's has a tradition
of presenting children who are finishing the fourth grade with
their own Bible.
This Bible is one that we hope children will highlight, write in,
take to Sunday School, dog-ear the corners of favorite passages,
and take to camp. In other words, we hope it will not just sit on a
bookshelf!
The Bibles will be blessed and presented to 4 th graders during
the 9:15 a.m. service on Sunday, March 13. If you have a 4 th
grader and have not been contacted about receiving a Bible,
please call MJ Durant at 342-5601 x214.
DRAGON SLAYERS – for Valentine’s Day, the Dragon Slayers
made very creative and beautiful Valentines for a group of men
who are residents at Boise Samaritan Home.
In just one evening, the Dragon Slayers packed 98 lunch bags
for our ministry of providing sack lunches for those in need. Our
group is also working on decorating the bags so they bring a little
more joy to the recipients.
CATHEDRAL NIGHT
NEW CLASSES OFFERED DURING LENT
Sally Langley shares her journey over the past 12 years of study and painting
icons. Icons: A Brush with God will include the history, spirituality, and
process of painting an icon. The class will begin at 6:45 p.m. following Cathedral
Night supper on Wednesdays, March 16, 23 and 30, in the Tuttle House.
Canon Lucas offers a brief two-week Bible study on the scriptural call to
do justice and serve the poor and hungry, Linking Your Faith to Action: Idaho
Interfaith Roundtable Against Hunger. Two representatives from this organization
will talk about their work and explore ways that we as members of St.
Michael's can get involved in the fight against hunger in Idaho.
The children's Communion Celebration Class meets on Wednesdays
through April 6, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. in the Atrium, located in the lower level
of the Cathedral. A Celebration of Communion will be held during the 9:15
a.m. service on Sunday, April 10.
Cathedral Night’s family-style supper is served at 6:00 p.m. in the
Tuttle House. An early-bird special is offered at 5:30 p.m. The cost
is $6.50 for adults and children over 10, with a donation for younger
children.
Cathedral Night Dragon Slayers for K-5 th graders meet following
supper in the lower level of Tuttle House.
Nursery care is available from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

All I can say is that if you were not able
to attend the February 20 th concert, Lift Every
Voice and Sing ~ in celebration of Black
History Month, you truly missed out on an
experience of a lifetime.

what I would consider, one of the most
amazing, transformative concerts this city

want more than just to sit back and be
entertained; they desired something
that would truly change their lives in
a positive way. I think that is what
happened, and many have asked,
“Why don’t we do music like this all
the time?”
Here is my response: We are who
we are, as Episcopalians, and we should never apologize for our
musical and liturgical heritage. However, I believe it is important
to include a variety of musical styles in our liturgy. Some musical
styles do not work well within a service, so we make our
musical offering in the form of a concert.
If you are interested in hearing some of the music featured at
our concert, I would encourage you to attend the 11:00 a.m.
service on March 20 and April 3.
Many thanks to the clergy, choir, soloists, and all who
attended the concert; your presence and participation helped to
make this experience one that will not soon be forgotten.

commissioner has been honored by the Boise City
Council who approved unanimously to change the
name of South Ulm Street near the airport tower
to Ed Stimpson Way.
