COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />
This program provides an educational<br />
opportunity for medical professionals<br />
to learn about the latest updates in<br />
state-of-the-art medical technology and<br />
current treatments in modern medicine.<br />
Additionally, this program will allow the<br />
recipients the opportunity to develop<br />
new professional contacts that may<br />
yield enduring collaborative and<br />
collegial relationships. Multiple session<br />
topics will be presented and ample<br />
opportunity for discussion and interaction<br />
with experts will be given. Topic areas<br />
will include clinical pathways for<br />
hospital and outpatient treatment;<br />
acute MI; hypertension; emerging<br />
infectious diseases; chronic cough;<br />
COPD/asthma; and congestive heart<br />
failure. This course will be presented in<br />
English and simultaneously translated<br />
to Spanish.<br />
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES<br />
Upon conclusion of this program,<br />
participants should be able to:<br />
• Interpret new diagnostic tests for<br />
pulmonary embolism.<br />
• Distinguish new goals in the<br />
treatment of lipid disorders.<br />
• Asses the importance of endothelial<br />
dysfunction.<br />
• Analyze the treatment of community<br />
acquired pneumonia (CAP).<br />
• Identify the key elements for a<br />
preoperative cardiac evaluation.<br />
• Determine the impact of <strong>Clinic</strong>al<br />
Pathways.<br />
• Summarize the new antibacterial<br />
and antifungal agents.<br />
• Analyze the approach to patients<br />
with chronic cough.<br />
• Distinguish new strain of C Difficile.<br />
• Recognize the clinical features of<br />
infections with community acquired<br />
MRSA.<br />
Attendance at this course does not<br />
indicate nor guarantee competence or<br />
proficiency in the performance of any<br />
procedures which may be discussed<br />
or taught during this course.<br />
INTENDED AUDIENCE<br />
This course will provide educational<br />
and networking opportunities for<br />
general internists, surgeons, family<br />
physicians and internal medicine<br />
subspecialties.<br />
CREDIT<br />
<strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> College of Medicine is<br />
accredited by the Accreditation Council<br />
for Continuing Medical Education to<br />
provide continuing medical education for<br />
physicians.<br />
AMA – <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> College of Medicine<br />
designates this educational activity for<br />
a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA<br />
Category 1 Credit(s) . Physicians<br />
should only claim credit commensurate<br />

to 15.75 Prescribed credits by the<br />
