COURSE DESCRIPTION This program provides an educational opportunity for medical professionals to learn about the latest updates in state-of-the-art medical technology and current treatments in modern medicine. Additionally, this program will allow the recipients the opportunity to develop new professional contacts that may yield enduring collaborative and collegial relationships. Multiple session topics will be presented and ample opportunity for discussion and interaction with experts will be given. Topic areas will include clinical pathways for hospital and outpatient treatment; acute MI; hypertension; emerging infectious diseases; chronic cough; COPD/asthma; and congestive heart failure. This course will be presented in English and simultaneously translated to Spanish. COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to: • Interpret new diagnostic tests for pulmonary embolism. • Distinguish new goals in the treatment of lipid disorders. • Asses the importance of endothelial dysfunction. • Analyze the treatment of community acquired pneumonia (CAP). • Identify the key elements for a preoperative cardiac evaluation. • Determine the impact of Clinical Pathways. • Summarize the new antibacterial and antifungal agents. • Analyze the approach to patients with chronic cough. • Distinguish new strain of C Difficile. • Recognize the clinical features of infections with community acquired MRSA. Attendance at this course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught during this course. INTENDED AUDIENCE This course will provide educational and networking opportunities for general internists, surgeons, family physicians and internal medicine subspecialties. CREDIT Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMA – Mayo Clinic College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. AAFP - This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 15.75 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AOA – This program has been approved by the American Osteopathic Association for 17.25 hours of 2A accreditation. Florida Nurses – Registered nurses can receive up to 18 contact hours for this course (Florida Board of Nursing FBN 3055). Other Health Care Professionals – A record of attendance will be provided to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations. EDUCATIONAL GRANTS At the time of this printing, a complete listing of commercial supporters was not available. Appropriate acknowledgment will be given to all supporters at the time of the meeting. Exhibits will be available for viewing at all scheduled breaks.

SCHOLARSHIP Registration scholarships are available of up to US $100 each to medical professionals from less-developed and less well-funded countries from Africa, South America, Central America, Asia/ Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe who would benefit from attending this course. The scholarship funds must be applied toward the registration fee of the course. To obtain a scholarship application or additional information please email cme-jax@mayo.edu and indicate “Scholarship” in the Subject line. CANCELLATION POLICY If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by Mayo School of CME on/before July 30, 2007 (fax# 904-953-2954). No refunds will be made after July 30, 2007. Mayo School of CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo School of CME must cancel or postpone this course, Mayo School of CME will refund the registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies.
