Course Description<br />
Whether you are a seasoned <strong>Hospital</strong>ist, or<br />
new to the inpatient arena, the 6th annual<br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Nurse</strong> <strong>Practitioners</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> Physician Assistants (NPPAs) will<br />
fill your CME needs. <strong>Hospital</strong>ist NPPAs<br />
are one of the fastest growing segments<br />
of the medical work<strong>for</strong>ce. This annual<br />
conference emphasizes clinical management<br />
of hospitalized patients in an interactive,<br />
case-based <strong>for</strong>mat with evidence-based<br />
lectures by experts in Nephrology, Infectious<br />
Disease, Endocrinology, Pulmonary <strong>and</strong><br />
Critical Care <strong>Medicine</strong>, Vascular <strong>Medicine</strong>,<br />
Cardiology, Oncology, Hematology,<br />
Radiology, Gastroenterology, Psychiatry,<br />
Neurology, <strong>and</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>. Whether<br />
urgently assessing an unstable patient, or<br />
applying guidelines <strong>and</strong> treatment pathways<br />
in a diagnostic workup, this course will help<br />
prepare the attendee <strong>for</strong> the rigors of the<br />
hospital environment.<br />
WORKSHOP--This pre-course workshop will<br />
be an intensive one day workshop with focus<br />
in commonly encountered bedside procedures<br />
<strong>for</strong> the hospitalized patient that integrates<br />
both didactic <strong>and</strong> simulation based learning<br />
into an experiential learning curriculum that<br />
emphasizes knowledge <strong>and</strong> practice behavior.<br />
It arms the participant with the knowledge<br />
<strong>and</strong> skills to complete commonly occurring<br />
bedside procedures.<br />
Course Learning Objectives<br />
Upon conclusion of this program, participants<br />
should be able to:<br />
• Analyze the future of hospital medicine<br />
<strong>and</strong> examine the vital role NP/PAs will<br />
play providing care <strong>for</strong> hospitalized<br />
patients.<br />
• Describe a rational approach to assessment<br />
<strong>and</strong> management of the hospitalized<br />
patient.<br />
• Identify current, clinically<br />
oriented, evidence-based practice<br />
recommendations in specialties such as<br />
cardiology, endocrinology, infectious<br />
disease, psychiatry, pulmonology,<br />
gastroenterology, <strong>and</strong> hospital medicine.<br />
• Initiate appropriate <strong>and</strong> timely<br />
consultation <strong>and</strong>/or referral.<br />
• Describe an approach to rate control<br />
<strong>and</strong> rhythm control strategies in atrial<br />
fibrillation.<br />
• Describe the FDA-approved uses <strong>for</strong> novel<br />
anticoagulants.<br />

Intended Audience<br />
<strong>Nurse</strong> <strong>Practitioners</strong> <strong>and</strong> Physician Assistants<br />
working in the hospital are the primary<br />
audience target. However, content is very<br />
applicable to <strong>Hospital</strong>ist physicians, inpatient<br />
pharmacists, nurses, <strong>and</strong> other allied health<br />
staff primarily caring <strong>for</strong> hospitalized patients.<br />

by the Accreditation Council <strong>for</strong> Continuing<br />
Medical Education to provide continuing<br />
