Spine Pain<br />

Course Description<br />

This program will offer updates on current diagnostic and management<br />

approaches for patients with spine pain. In addition, aspects of<br />

comprehensive spine rehabilitation will be addressed.<br />

Who should attend?<br />

Healthcare professionals involved in the practice of rehabilitation with an<br />

interest in the care of persons with spine pain. Rehabilitation physicians,<br />

physical therapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation nurses,<br />

rehabilitation medical social workers, psychologists, occupational therapy<br />

assistants, physical therapy assistants, recreational therapists, speech<br />

pathologists and any other rehabilitation provider.<br />

Refund<br />

If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a<br />

25% administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is<br />

received by Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee up<br />

to 14 days prior to the course. No refunds will be made after that date. The<br />

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee reserves the<br />

right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In<br />

the unlikely event a course must cancel or be postponed, the <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> –<br />

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee will refund the<br />

registration fee but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or<br />

expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline / travel / lodging<br />

agencies.<br />

Spine Pain<br />

Learning Objectives:<br />

Upon completion of the course participants should be able to:<br />

• Provide an overview of low back pain etiology.<br />

• Describe the use of spine imaging to diagnose back pain.<br />

• Discuss the role and timing of surgery for back pain.<br />

• Outline means to effectively motivate patients to perform exercises and be<br />

actively involved in the cure of their back pain.<br />

• Describe injection and medication options for back pain.<br />

• Discuss the role and effectiveness of acupuncture and manual therapy<br />

techniques in patients with back pain.<br />

• Outline the use of ultrasound imaging for lumbar stabilization exercises.<br />
