Upper and Middle School Latin teacher <strong>Michael</strong> <strong>McGrann</strong> gave Upper<br />

School students a sneak peek at his upcoming Kastendieck Lecture in<br />

Chapel on October 20.<br />

His full presentation, titled "Ritual and Reason: Confucius, Plato, and<br />

Philosophies of Rule," will be offered to Poly parents, students, and<br />

friends on December 14 at 4:00 PM.<br />

Bread for Bread Engages Students in Community Service<br />

On October 31, many children celebrate.<br />

But children at the Lower School celebrate in a unique way. They learn<br />

about giving back to the community by participating in a bake sale called<br />

"Bread for Bread" that supports UNICEF.<br />

A: 39 years. I got here in September '68.<br />

Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity<br />

Wednesday, October 18, marked the year's first SEED meeting at Poly.<br />

SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) is a reading and<br />

discussion group for faculty and staff seeking to develop strategies for<br />

building inclusive curricula, classrooms, programs, and work<br />

environments.<br />

Sixth Graders Learn about Cartography<br />

Liane Dougherty's sixth grade history class is going straight to the source to<br />

learn about mapmaking. Last week, cartographer and Upper School librarian<br />

Jim Kemp visited the class as a guest instructor.<br />

As part of their study of Mesopotamia, the sixth graders are learning about<br />

the region's geography and constructing a 3- by 10-foot bulletin board map of<br />

the region.<br />
