Streetlife speaks the language of landscape architects 

and spatial planners. We supply the building elements for 

landscape or urban plans. 

We regard it as a challenge to work with prominent architects 

and municipal bodies. Alliances with trendsetting experts in 

urban greenery (BSI Tree Service) and composite structures 

(Lightweight Structures) generate unique products.

Streetlife has an in-house design and engineering 

team led by Peter Krouwel. 

The innovative designs have received several design awards: 

Good Industrial Design 1999, 

Nomination for The Dutch Design Prize 2003 & 2005, 

Nomination for The German Design Prize 2007. 

Peter Krouwel was a partner of npk industrial design office 

for 25 years and, as such, responsible for the new-style 

post boxes (TNT) and the national signposting of the ANWB 

Motorists’ Association, among other prize-winning designs. 

He was also a member of the Academic Council of the 

Design Academy Eindhoven for five years.

Streetlife is Green 

Design & Construct 

Sustainability is a key word in the selection, development and 

application of materials for our products: 

1. Streetlife uses CorTen steel, which does not leach zinc into the 

environment. 

2. Streetlife only uses wood from FSC-certified European and 

South-American forestries for its hardwood constructions. 

3. The LED Glass Spot Lights and the Valley Lights are extremely 

energy-efficient and have a life expectancy of 20 to 25 years. 

4. Our sophisticated tree tubs and tree watering systems make 

for a greener urban environment, which contributes to the 

reduction of CO 2 and helps to fight the problem of PM 

(particulate matter). 

Our outdoor design expertise, many years of experience and 

thorough knowledge of materials and production techniques 

have given Streetlife a strong reputation in the market for urban 

products. 

Not only do we design, we also produce the products and supply 

them to our customers. This successful formula reduces the risk 

for the client to a minimum. 

For example, commissioned by the city of Helmond, Streetlife 

made a complete design of new carbon elements for an existing 

concrete viaduct, accommodating pedestrians as well as fast 

traffic. In that project, we used our lightweight Synthetic Cones 

with LED lights and our Treetec ® watering system. 

For the city of Amsterdam, Streetlife designed and supplied large, 

5000 litre hardwood tree tubs with stainless steel interiors. 

Composite Materials 

Life Cycle Analysis 

New Composite materials are often a good ecological alternative 

for traditional materials. As Streetlife feels strongly about the idea 

of sustainability, composite materials are applied in various 

products. 

1. Sustainable Decking, in which Composite wood 

(75% wood/25% synthetic material) is applied as an alternative 

to hardwood. 

2. Composite materials and natural fibres are applied in our 

bridges and tree tubs, which extends the life span of these 

products considerably. 

3. Recycled old polyester particles and stone dust are applied in 

the compressed shell-seats of our Composite SMC Standard 

benches. 

4. Recycled agricultural plastic sheeting and used plastic bags are 

applied in our All Black and Snow White slats. 

Next to price, cost of maintenance and design, sustainability 

has become a major factor in the process of making a sensible 

decision. However, the concept of durability can be rather 

ambiguous and can be interpreted in various ways. 

In designing and developing new outdoor projects and products, 

Streetlife applies the so-called Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). 

With special LCA software, three main aspects are analyzed and 

compared: 

- Emission of CO 2 (Carbon Footprint): a method that measures the 

gases that are deemed responsible for the greenhouse effect and 

global warming. 

- Energy consumption (Cumulative Energy Demand): 

a method to measure and calculate the total consumption of 

energy of a product during its life span. 

- Eco-indicators 99: a method comparing the impact of a product 

during its life span on three categories: human health, quality of 

the eco system and natural resources.

CorTen Steel 

The use of CorTen steel in public space does not harm or may even 

add to the attractive looks of the natural surroundings. 

CorTen steel can be applied outdoors without any environmentunfriendly 

treatment such as zinc or chemical coatings. 

CorTen is a steel alloy with added chromium and nickel on which, 

after having been exposed to the elements for about six months, 

a dense, water and air-tight patina of rust will appear, which will 

prevent the steel from rusting any further. 

Streetlife supplies various products in CorTen steel. Apart from 

its warm charisma, CorTen steel has a number of advantages: 

it is environment-friendly, graffiti and sticker-resistant, shows an 

attractive fading effect from orange to brown and due to its natural 

oxidation, any repairs or alterations to a CorTen steel structure will 

become invisible in time.

The robust beams in the R&R programme are available in 2 

materials: 

A- Standard: FSC hardwood from certified European and South- 

American tree forestry plantations, maximum length 300 cm. 

B- All Black or Snow White: solid recycled black plastic from 

agricultural plastic sheeting and plastic bags. These beams 

are thoroughly black or white and have a coarse wood texture. 

Only available in 200 and 275 cm. 

Maintenance: 

Sanding the wooden beams will remove graffiti and make the 

bench even more beautiful. 

The All Black or Snow White versions are ‘zero maintenance’. 

The beams are graffiti-repellent and can be turned over if required.

As the name implies, the Rough&Ready Curve benches are 

curved and display unique character. The single bench is 200 cm 

long and 60 cm deep. The benches can be linked together, 

to create a long, curved bench or a twisting serpentine 

configuration. The accompanying backrest is slightly convex and 

can be mounted at almost any position required. Owing to the 

positioning of the beams, the Curve benches will not be damaged 

by skaters! 

The radius of this R&R Curve bench is approx. 800 cm.

3, 4 and 5 metres in diameter. These are well-designed benches, 

ideal for a layout around monumental trees. The convexly planed

Our R&R Topseats are loose seats that are mounted on a stone, 

brick or concrete 30 cm high concrete or brick wall. 

The FSC hardwood beams are robust and locked into stainlesssteel 

Streetlock ® comb fittings, which are invisibly embedded in 

the wall or concrete block. Two different models are available: 

• The R&R 5/6 Topseats are long, straight seats. The modules have 

a length of 234 or 300 cm. The beams are attached by means of 

a double rod and stainless-steel theft-proof flanged nuts. 

A backrest element is optional: R&R-1540-Rug. 

• The R&R Curve Topseats are ideal for topping slightly curved 

walls or for circular configurations. The modules are not 

self-supporting. They can be equipped with slightly convex 

backrests if required: R&R-Curve 60-Back. The short beams are 

incorporated into long stainless-steel Streetlock ® comb fittings, 

and are supplied in module lengths of approx. 2 m.

R&R Big Green Benches 

Shrubs, bamboo, hedges and climbers are ideal green options for the Big Green Benches. 

The Big Green Benches are made of CorTen steel with a FSC 

hardwood sitting edge. This sitting edge, in the Rough&Ready 

version, is splendidly detailed, with inserted wooden beams. 

These benches can be furnished with shrubs, bamboo or climbers. 

The benches are extremely solid but remain movable. It is possible 

to supply these benches with an open bottom (OB version) so that 

shrubs or trees can take root in the open ground. They are also 

extremely suitable for bamboo or climbers for façade greenery. 

Dimensions: 250 x 90 x 45 cm, D = 40 cm with R&R sitting edge.

Other dimensions and implementations can be realized in

Our Rough&Ready bicycle parking is a tough supporting stand for 

bikes. The hole in the steel leg is intended for fixing the bike to the 

stand with a chain lock. The untreated and sustainable FSC 

hardwood will not damage the bicycle and creates a new picture 

with an unique identity. With this design, Streetlife has created the 

first user-friendly, yet robust bicycle stand. 

Streetlife advises placing the R&R stands at a mutual distance of 

95 cm. The steel leg is available in galvanized or CorTen steel 

versions. It can be supplied with a concrete base. 

Minimum order 10 items. Delivery time 12-14 weeks. 

The Rough&Ready Line-parking rack is a traditional bicycle 

parking facility in a modern and robust variant. The bikes are 

parked inline.

Rough&Ready Bollards 

The R&R programme is completed by the solid Rough&Ready 

Bollards. These robust beams in FSC Hardwood or in All Black are 

combined with a solid galvanized steel or CorTen steel frame. 

With the standard version (BOLS) the frame extends 40 cm into 

the ground. The floor version (BOLV) can be easily anchored on a 

smooth surface. The beams are covered on the top and are 

mounted by means of stainless-steel theft-proof flange nuts. 

The bollards are also available with low-energy LED orientation 

lighting. 

Available in 2 heights: 45 and 75 cm.

Our Rough&Ready benches in Snow White are environmentfriendly, 

relaxing and rustic. The sustainable synthetic material is 

thoroughly white due to the addition of white stone dust during 

the manufacturing process. 

R&R Snow White benches come in lengths of 200 - 275 cm and 

have galvanized steel legs. 


The white material is a compound of synthetic material (PE and PP) 

mixed with white stone dust. Despite the application of a 

UV-stabilisation filter, slight discolouration due to sunlight are 

possible in time. 

Fire resistance: class 3, in accordance with NEN 6065 standard.

The Rough&Ready programme is also available in black beams made 

of re-used synthetic material (old plastic bags, agricultural plastic 

sheeting, etc.) that is black throughout: All Black. 

This sustainable material requires no maintenance and has a coarse 

wood texture. Ink and paint cannot penetrate the surface and will 

hardly adhere, so that the items are practically insensitive to graffiti. 

The black beams and stainless-steel theft-proof nuts give the 

R&R benches an even tougher, more robust appearance! 

The R&R-benches All Black are available in lengths of 200 cm and 

275 cm. Our R&R-5 benches and the R&R bicycle supports are NOT 

available in All Black. 


The black material is a compound of re-used synthetic materials (PE 

and PP). They remain black due to the UV-stabilization process they 

have undergone. They have been categorized as Fire Class 3 

according to NEN 6065. In contrast to wood, no maintenance is 

needed. The material does not discolour, is extremely durable and is 

extremely environment-friendly (no additives except black soot).

Our Stone Benches are extremely tough benches with a unique 

character. Variations in lay-out are sheer endless. Two kinds of 

natural stone have been selected for their durability and colours. 

The 14 cm thick stone tablets have a sitting-depth of 60 cm. and 

are rounded off for comfort. 

The Stone Bench Basic is available in 2 lengths: 170 and 215 cm. 

The legs and the supporting frame are made of galvanized steel.

As the name already suggests, the Stone Bench Curve is a curved 

bench that radiates nothing but solidity. 

A single SB-Curve bench is ca. 200 cm long and 60 cm deep. 

Attractive layouts can be created by combining more benches

Our Stone Bench Circle is available in three circular layouts, 

with external diameters of 330, 390 and 450 cm. 

These are magnificent benches to be put around, for example, 

large monumental trees in historic squares, architectural 

courtyards or graveyards. 

The legs are made of galvanized steel, combined with a rounded 

steel frame.

The Long & Lean benches have flat seats made of extremely 

durable FSC red brown hardwood. The benches come in two 

widths: 11 slats (± 65 cm) and 15 slats (± 90 cm). The slats are 

reversible and can be used on both sides. Also available in

Wood Top System 

Our Wood Top System consists of slat modules that are invisibly 

mounted on a steel or concrete sub-construction. The prefab slat 

modules are mounted by means of stainless-steel Streetlock ® 

comb fittings (in a mini-variant). Ultimately no screws are at all 

visible, yet the slats can easily be replaced in cases of 

maintenance. The slats are made of FSC hardwood: 35 x 57 mm. 

The end slat is mounted upright by means of special stainless 

steel theft-proof nuts. Horizontal as well as vertical assembly is 

possible. The system is also extremely suited to create exceptional 

Tree Isles.

Solid Benches 

In terms of design, our Solid Benches are modest and 

‘minimalistic’. Both the wooden seat and the steel legs have a 

closed (solid) character. 

The FSC hardwood slats (70 x 70 mm) are mounted in Streetlock ® 

comb fittings; the space between the slats is only 8 mm. 

The solid slats are mounted with a rod and stainless-steel 

theft-proof flanged nuts. For maintenance or repairs, they can 

easily be replaced or turned over. 

The steel legs are also solid, minimizing the chance of waste 

accumulation. They can be easily anchored to the pavement. 

With the special connection units, long bench configurations can 

be realized. Backrests of the same minimalistic design 

complement the Solid Programme.

Our Solid Terrace System consists of self-supporting slat modules 

by means of which exceptional and tiered constructions can be 

realized. The FSC hardwood slats (70 x 70 mm) are invisibly

A single stainless-steel theft-proof flange nut complements the

Solid Terrace System

Commissioned by the Dunea water company and the organisations 

charged with the management of the dune area between the 

towns of Scheveningen, Wassenaar and Katwijk, Streetlife 

designed a special programme of furniture elements: the 3D 

collection. The consequent application of three basic materials: 

FSC hardwood, CorTen steel and stainless steel, resulted in a 

strong, simple product line with its own identity and in perfect 

harmony with the dune landscape. 

From this 3D series, the Valley bench proved particularly 

successful, which is why is has been added to our regular 

collection 2010-2011.

It is our experience that the SMC Composite Standard benches 

have an extremely long life span, due to the special qualities of 

the composite material they are made of. 

Being vandal-resistant, “zero maintenance” and very comfortable, 

these benches are ideal for urban environments. 

Legs and brackets are galvanized; mounting hardware is made of 

theft-proof stainless steel. The steel backrest is treated with a 

double RAL 9007 powder coating including an extra anti-graffiti

Our Horse Shoe benches have a minimalistic, yet distinctive 

design. The low benches are made of stainless steel (SS 316) legs 

with rounded FSC Cumaru slats: a very elegant and hard-wearing 

combination of materials that can withstand the ravages of time. 

The deep brown colour of the wood differs slightly in tint from slat

Highlife Benches 

Our Highlife urban bench is a chic, very comfortable 4 & 8-seater 

town bench. The slightly curved back is shoulder-high. The reddish 

brown Cumaru is a durable FSC hardwood that gradually develops 

a beautiful grey patina. Highlife benches are durable, partly due to 

the absence of wooden joints. The high-tech metal frame and 

elegantly shaped legs are finished with a double powder coating: 

Stainless steel Grey or RAL Anthracite. The playful effect of the

These tables have thick, sustainable FSC hardwood slats

wheelchairs. 

The thermo-galvanized ground legs form the supporting frame for

This timeless design is exceptionally functional, and supports all 

types of bikes which can easily be chain-locked to the clamp for 

additional security. The Clip bicycle clamp has been awarded the 

Dutch quality mark for reliable cycling facilities:

The Clip is made of round pipe, ø 4.2 cm, is available in

Rough&Ready bicycle parking is a tough supporting stand for 

bikes. The hole in the steel leg is for fixing the bike to the stand 

with a chain lock. The untreated and sustainable FSC hardwood 

bar will not damage the bicycle and creates a new picture with its 

own identity. For the first time, streets can be furnished with a 

natural, user-friendly yet robust bicycle stand. Streetlife advises 

placing the R&R stands at spatial intervals of 95 cm. The steel leg 

is available in either galvanized or CorTen steel. It can be supplied

Rough&Ready Bollards 

Our R&R programme is completed by the solid Rough&Ready 

Bollards. These robust beams in FSC hardwood or in All Black are 

combined with a solid galvanized steel or CorTen steel frame. 

With the standard version (BOLS) the frame extends 40 cm into 

the ground. The floor version (BOLV) can be easily anchored on a 

smooth surface. The beams are covered on the top and are 

mounted by means of stainless-steel theft-proof flange nuts. 

The bollards are also available with low-energy LED orientation 

lighting. 

Available in 2 heights: 45 and 75 cm.

A fence and a bicycle rack combined into one system takes less 

space off the school yard or the shopping mall square. 

These bicycle racks are suitable for large as well as small bikes, 

which can be parked and chain-locked on both sides. 

The bike-fence modules are 300 cm long and are available in an 

open or a closed zigzag version. The open version is particularly 

suitable to be combined with a green hedge. Each module has 

space for 3 or 6 bicycle stands. 

The bike stands are galvanized; the fences are normally powdercoated.

Our Facet Fences are particularly suitable to be applied as 

a festive ribbon alongside a bridge or a viaduct. Materials and 

colours can be varied, and so can the degree of transparency, 

depending on the location and purpose of the fence. 

A wooden hand rest, optionally with or without LED-line lighting, 

forms the finishing touch of the Facet Fence.

Streetlife Sports Enclosures 

Among other locations, our Streetlife modular football and 

basketball enclosures, designed by Ruud-Jan Kokke, have been 

installed in the inner cities of Amsterdam and The Hague. 

The robust, curved mesh units, with a height of 4.5 metres, 

cannot be climbed. The length per unit is 2.1 metres, either with 

or without a concrete base. 

A thorough evaluation shows that the Streetlife sports enclosures 

are an exceptionally sound investment. Their construction has 

proved extremely vandal-resistant. Moreover, test reports show 

that they are virtually noiseless. 

Obviously, countless variations in dimensions and design are 

possible: a simple enclosure with two entrance gates, 

an enclosure with ‘retro’ trusses, open ‘sluice’ entrances and 

a ball catcher (to prevent balls from being shot out of the 

enclosure) are just a few of the many options.

Our Streetlife Glass Spots have unique qualities, which make 

them ideal for outdoor applications. These round glasspot lights 

(ø 3.5 cm and ø 4.2 cm) are virtually indestructible, 

completely water and dust tight, require very little energy and 

have an extremely long life span of approximately 25 years. 

Our patented casting method with a transparent resin results in 

a solid transparent fitting, including cable pull-relief, which 

guarantees trouble-free application in damp underground 

situations or even under water. 

Now, squares, promenades etc. can be furnished with decorative 

as well as functional lighting. These long-lasting and maintenance 

free products are particularly suitable for application in high or 

inaccessible places. 

The process of full or semi–integration of the Glass Spot lights 

with epoxy resin in any tile or brick of your choice must be 

performed by Streetlife. With special brackets, Glass Spots can 

also be easily integrated in tarmac and other decking and sheet 

materials.

Commissioned by the Dunea water company and the 

organisations charged with the management of the dune area 

between the towns of Scheveningen, Wassenaar and Katwijk, 

Streetlife designed a special programme of furniture elements: 

the 3D collection. The consequent application of three basic 

materials: FSC hardwood, CorTen steel and stainless steel, has 

resulted in a strong, simple product line with its own identity and 

in perfect harmony with the dune landscape. Striking elements in 

this programme are the Valley LED Lights.

The Valley LED Lights are unique CorTen lamppost fixtures for 

lampposts with heights of 4-5 meters. These high efficiency 

LED-units are equipped with dust closed lens optics. The Valley 

Lights save 30-40% energy compared with conventional PLT light 

technology. Lamp replacement belongs to the past because of its 

long life span (max. 100.000 LED burning hours). Available for 

special timber posts or conventional metal posts.

Streetlife supplies a unique ground spotlight with the Tree Air ® 

system for root ventilation (patent pending), which combines well

Rainbow Pillars 


These Rainbow light objects are 13 metres high and are a perfect 

combination of functional and decorative LED lighting. A computer 

unit gives full control of the light (colour, intensity, changing 

speed). Summer and winter colour ‘palettes’ are ready available. 

Among other locations, these light objects have been installed in 

the city of Leiden’s bus station area. The Rainbow Pillars can be 

fitted with power LED spots or discreet white lighting. Available in

Our Light Frame illuminated signboards have a minimalistic 

design. Due to the use of aluminium for their construction, they 

weigh less than 20 kg, which makes it possible to attach them to 

any lamppost with our reliable mounting brackets and practical 

cable solution. The panels can easily be exchanged. 

The energy-efficient fluorescent lighting guarantees smooth 

lighting of the panels.

Bowler 

Our Bowler lamppost is approximately 4.5 metres high. 

The frame allows all-round light emission and can be fitted with 

various combinations of lights and optics. The stainless steel 

triangle and ring produce an attractive twinkling effect at night, 

reflecting the light from above. The post is coated and provided 

with a connectordevice. 

The Bowler lampposts are particularly suitable for lighting squares 

and as orientation lines in urban areas.
