2012 <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong> Tryout Requirements and Information<br />

I. General <strong>Team</strong> Information<br />

The <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong> is a group that performs as a unit of the <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Marching Commodores<br />

marching band. This group provides color and expression to the marching band performance through the use of dance<br />

and various equipment. Students on the <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong> are considered to be members of the <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> and are<br />

subject to all rules and requirements of the <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong>. The staff for the <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> and for the <strong>Dance</strong><br />

<strong>Team</strong> includes:<br />

• Thomas Singletary—<strong>Band</strong> Director<br />

• Veronica Curran—<strong>Band</strong> Director<br />

• Laura Singletary— <strong>Band</strong> Director<br />

• Bobby Blum—Percussion Director<br />

• Dan Johnson—Percussion Instructor<br />

• Tiffany Hall—<strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong> Instructor<br />

II. General Tryout Information:<br />

Tryout clinics will be held May 1-2 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. in the EGHS gym. Tryout routines will be taught at<br />

these clinics. The tryout will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 5:45 pm to 8:45 pm in the EGHS Gym.<br />

Required attire/hair for the day of tryouts:<br />

- Fitted White shirt (no baggy clothing will be permitted)<br />

- Black Athletic shorts such as soffees or other dancewear shorts (denim and extremely baggy basketball shorts<br />

will not be permitted)<br />

- Hair must be slicked back into a ponytail.<br />

- <strong>Dance</strong> shoes or tennis shoes.<br />

III. <strong>Team</strong> Eligibility:<br />

All those interested in trying out for the 2012 <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> team must meet the following requirements:<br />

• If you were a member of last year’s <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> and/or Flag and <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong>, you must have a zero<br />

balance in your account before you can attend the tryout sessions.<br />

• Attend tryout clinic sessions and turn in required paperwork by May 3 rd , the day of tryouts.<br />

• Come dressed in appropriate attire for clinic sessions and for the tryout. Appropriate attire includes dance<br />

wear and/or fitted shorts and t shirts. Tennis shoes or dance shoes are required.<br />

• Participate in clinic activities with a good attitude.<br />

• Have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA (or equivalent for incoming freshmen). This is required in order to be eligible<br />

for the team. GPAs will be confirmed in the school’s computer system.<br />

• Have a “clean” behavior/dean’s office record at the school that you are attending presently and grades of “S”<br />

for behavior in your present classes. (Behavior grades will be checked in the school system.)


IV. Tryout Results and Status<br />

There are two levels of acceptance to the <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> team: full performing member, and alternate<br />

member.<br />

A FULL PERFORMING MEMBER has met all tryout performance criteria and has fully participated in all<br />

pre-tryout activities and met all pre-tryout criteria (grades, behavior, attire, attitude, etc.) These<br />

members will be assigned a full-show performing spot on the field for the 2012 marching season.<br />

AN ALTERNATE MEMBER has met most of the tryout performance criteria at a satisfactory level, but<br />

has areas that need reinforcement and training. They have fully participated in all pre-tryout activities<br />

and met all pre-tryout criteria (grades, behavior, attire, attitude, etc.) These members will be assigned a<br />

partial performing spot on the field for the 2012 marching season. They will also serve to fill vacancies<br />

that may occur due to illness or injury during the season. ALL ALTERNATE MEMBERS WILL PERFORM<br />

AT LEAST A PORTION OF THE COMPLETED SHOW.<br />

Students who do not meet the tryout criteria for dance skills OR who do not meet the pre-tryout<br />

criteria (attendance at clinics, grades, behavior, attire, and attitude) will not be accepted to the<br />

team.<br />

Notification of tryout results will be given to students via letter at the conclusion of the audition on<br />

Thursday, May 3. A second tryout may be held to accommodate students who were unable to attend the<br />

first tryout due to conflict. Those who are selected to be on the 2012 team will be required to provide<br />

the first initial payment of $100.00 (for rehearsal attire and uniform down payment) at the first TEAM<br />

MEETING on Monday, May 14 th (7:00 p.m.) Checks are to be made to <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> and payments are<br />

non-refundable. (Please speak with Coach Hall or Mr. Singletary if you need to split this initial payment into two installments).<br />

V. Evaluation Criteria<br />

Students will be instructed in and evaluated on the following areas:<br />

DANCE SKILLS: (these skills will be taught and reinforced in the clinic/training session<br />

on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1-2) <strong>Dance</strong> training will include basic stretching, jazz<br />

walk/run technique, center/posture, turnout, basic ballet fundamentals, and combinations.<br />

and Money Expectations for the Year<br />

• Please see the attached calendar for dates and times for summer rehearsals. Practices for the team will begin in May and will<br />

extend through the summer. There will be weekly practices in May, June, and July.<br />

• In July, students will be expected to participate in our training camp for the <strong>Dance</strong> team on July 11-13. Students will also be<br />

expected to attend <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> Camp July 23-31 & August 1-3 (weekdays).<br />

• Once school starts, the team will rehearse twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m. Additional rehearsals may<br />

be scheduled as needed in October (with advance notice) to prepare for competition. The rehearsal schedule will be<br />

modified/scaled back at the beginning of November (after competition/football season ends.)<br />

• The team performs and attends all home football games (Friday nights beginning in late August), select away football games, and a<br />

maximum of 3 competitions/festivals. October is competition month. Please reserve the 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th Saturdays in October as<br />

potential competition dates.<br />

• The <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong> activity ends with football season.<br />

Money-<br />

All fees from <strong>Eau</strong> <strong>Gallie</strong> <strong>Band</strong> 2011-12 must be paid before students can tryout for the new <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Team</strong>.<br />

The <strong>Dance</strong> team payment schedule for 2012 is as follows:<br />

All Payments are due by the 15th of the month. Students may pay their payment directly or may choose to fundraise to cover the cost<br />

of their payment. These fees will be paid over time in payments to allow time for sponsors and fundraisers to be done by individuals to<br />

assist in their fees. You will be sized at the new team meeting on May 14, and once your uniforms are ordered you are financially<br />

responsible for these items even if you quit the team as they are custom made. $100 will be due at the new team meeting on May 14<br />

(non-refundable.) If you need to split this into 2 payments that is not a problem, but a verbal arrangement needs to be set. Please see<br />

Coach Hall or Mr. Singletary to make arrangements.


Checklist of Items Needed for Tryouts. . .<br />

o Tryout clothing should be somewhat fitted; nothing extremely baggy. Students should<br />

wear a white t-shirt and black shorts (soffees or other fitted shorts), and should have<br />

the appropriate footwear. Hair should be slicked back into a ponytail.<br />

o Sneakers or dance shoes are REQUIRED to participate. Performing in socks will not be<br />

allowed for safety reasons.<br />

o NO JEANS OR JEWELRY FOR ANY REASON<br />

o Completed team application with student and parent<br />

signature and all forms completed.<br />

o Physical completed, physical form completed and signed.<br />
