Last year’s EFMP Resource Fair, held at Joint Base Myer-Henderson
We hope that this year’s event will be an even greater success, with more participants,
exhibitors, and informative sessions.
Parent Training and Information Centers
Did you know that each state has at least one Parent Training and Information
Center (PTI), whose purpose is to provide training and information to
the families with children with disabilities? These centers are funded through
the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs
(OSEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
PTIs serve families of children, birth to 26, with any type of disability, physical,
cognitive, behavioral, or emotional. They offer services such as one-toone
support and assistance, workshops, publications, and websites. The majority
of PTI staff members and board members are parents of children with
disabilities so they are able to bring personal experience, expertise, and empathy
when working with families.
There is also a PTI just for those in the US Armed Services: Specialized
Training of Military Parents (STOMP) is the national center serving military
families.
What a wonderful resource for assistance in advocating for your child!
EFMP Frequently Asked Question
Question: My family member’s condition has improved and we no longer need
the services of the Exceptional Family Member Program. Will they automatically
be disenrolled if I fail to update their enrollment by the every-3-year due date?
Answer: No, your family member will remain enrolled in the program. The only
way to disenroll is by completing and resubmitting the DD Form 2792, and the
DD Form 2792-1 as well if the family member is age 3 to high school graduation.
HQ USMC will evaluate the documents and either update your family member’s
status or disenroll your family member if EFMP services are deemed no longer
necessary.
