Blooming Marvellous!
Dazzling Azaleas for a blaze of colour.
Azalea Dogw od White
Our colourful new season’s range of dazzling Azaleas are available now. Most varieties are in full
bloom between August and October, so plant now, for some spectacular winter and spring colour.
Azaleas are so versatile, it’s easy to see why they’re one of the most popular fl owering shrubs
we grow. There’s such a range of uses; Azaleas make ideal pot plants, they brighten up semi shade
areas of the garden and are great for planting beneath deciduous trees. They add an authentic look
to Japanese gardens and are the perfect planting partners for Camellias. While Azaleas prefer
semi-shaded positions, many varieties are sun tolerant and will grow in more exposed positions
provided they are well watered and mulched during the warmer months.
For a full description of all Azalea varieties offered by Dawson’s,
Screen Stars
Camellia Beatrice Emily
Sasanqua Camellias are real screen stars.
Their naturally tall and spreading habit,
makes them ideal for screen planting. They
grow from between 1.5m to 4m in height,
perfect for privacy screening and hedging
use. Just the thing for planting along the
fence, or down those diffi cult, narrow alleys
between the side of the house and the fence.
So, cover up with these wonderful autumn
fl owering Camellias.
Whether your garden style is cottage,
Japanese, or perhaps formal, Sasanquas will
be right at home. When planting a Sasanqua
screen or hedge, use all the same variety
to ensure uniform growth, and plant at
spacings of about 1m apart.
Camellia Hiryu
Camellia Plantation Pink
Sasanqua Camellias are a great choice for
fl owering screens and hedges.
Sasanquas are more sun tolerant than other
Camellias, so lend themselves to use in a
wider range of garden aspects. Favoured
positions include those receiving morning sun
and afternoon shade and semi shaded areas.
They can also be grown successfully in full
sun positions, provided they are watered daily
during the warmer months and a thick layer
of moisture conserving mulch is applied.
These versatile Camellias make excellent
espalier subjects for walls and fences, and
make very attractive shrubs either in the
garden, or planted in large pots and tubs.
Drama Queens!
Bougainvilleas are the real drama queens
of the autumn garden, with their vibrant,
iridescent colours, nothing else comes close!
Bougainvilleas are at their brilliant best during the warm days of autumn, when they set
Perth’s suburbs ablaze with their vibrant colours. These hardy plants thrive in Perth’s long,
hot summers and will reward gardeners with an eye-catching display of colour from mid
summer through to early winter.
Bougainvilleas are easy to grow and provided they are planted in a full sun position,
you can’t go wrong.
Bougainvilleas have traditionally been used as scrambling climbers over fences, but they
are also great for espalier, screening or security hedging, specimen shrubs, cascading over
walls and pots.
Dawson’s grow a wonderful range of Bougainvilleas that are just waiting to weave their
colourful magic in your garden. The best time to select Bougainvilleas is right now, so
choose your plants from our range of stunning beauties including;
Floribunda Perfume Perfection
Deciduous plants are great value, providing year
round interest in the garden. They are constantly
changing as they track the ever-changing seasons.
After the heat of summer, autumn works its
magic, unlocking the autumn tones of red,
orange, yellow and tan, in the foliage of
deciduous plants. Autumn is nature’s
natural planting time and by planting now,
your plants will benefi t from the mild days
of autumn and the promise of winter rains.
So, plant now and your garden will truly change
with the seasons.
Here’s some colourful autumn
planting suggestions:
Chinese Tallow: An excellent, easy to grow tree,
suitable for use in many smaller gardens and
courtyards. Attractive, multi-coloured autumn
foliage show. Height to 8m. Width 3-4m.
Floribunda Iceberg
Fantastic fl oribunda roses are much more
than a pretty face.
Floribundas are the real workhorses of the
rose garden. These compact, bushy roses
produce numerous, showy fl ushes of fl ower,
throughout the season. It’s as if they shout
out “look at me, look at me!” For sheer
garden show and colour, they’re certainly
hard to beat. The majority of fl oribundas
will grow to around 90-120cm (3-4 foot) in
height, making them ideal for small gardens,
large pots and tubs. Always plant in groups to
create more dramatic fl owering effects.
Floribunda roses make a great alternative
choice for fl owering hedges and borders.
They excel in sunny positions and make
spectacular formal and informal hedges and
borders, wonderful for separating garden
areas into “garden rooms”.
Floribunda Brass Band
A top hedging tip is to plant just one variety
of fl oribunda, so you get consistent growth
and form, over the length of your hedge.
Maintenance is easy; give your hedge a light
clip over after each major fl owering fl ush,
then watch as they quickly respond, with the
next fl ush of blooms.
There’s no complicated winter pruning
required, simply cut back fl oribundas to
about half their original height, using
loppers, hedge shears or even electric hedge
shears.
So, hedge for success with fl oribunda roses.
Here’s some suggested fl oribunda roses
for fl owering hedges and borders: Angel
Face, Brass Band, Brilliant Pink Iceberg,
Burgundy Iceberg, Dearest, Europeana,
Friesia, Gold Bunny, Iceberg, Perfume
Perfection, Seduction and Satchmo.
AUTUMN HUES
Foliage Colour for your Autumn Garden
Crepe Myrtles: These fabulous summer fl owering
large shrubs and trees, fi nish off their growing season
with autumn tinged foliage in shades of orange,
yellow, red and russet. Many varieties grow to around
4m in height, just perfect for modern gardens.
Glory Vine: (also known as Ornamental Grape).
Large, grape leaves turn gorgeous autumn shades of
red, brown and tan. Wonderful summer shade for
your patio or pergola.
Ornamental Pear Trees: Versatile landscape trees,
with autumn foliage and white blossom in spring.
Choose from Manchurian Pear (tapering tree to
5-7m high), Capital (ideal for narrow sites,
growing to only 3.5m wide) and Chanticleer
(height 8-11m and width to 5.5m).
Silver Birch: Lovely tree for protected sites.
Develops white, papery bark with age.
Leaves turn golden shades in autumn.
Height 8-10m. Width 4-5m.
