About SUNYIT
Founded in 1966, SUNYIT, the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome, is SUNY’s only
institute of technology. More than 2,900 students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in technology
and professional studies on the SUNYIT campus, a high-tech learning environment on hundreds of acres in Marcy,
N.Y. Our students come from all over New York, many other states and more than 20 other nations; a growing number
are enrolled in online courses and degree programs. SUNYIT has established a multi-million-dollar nanotechnology
partnership and has launched several new academic programs, including biology, engineering and cybersecurity. The
campus is in the middle of more than $100 million in improvements including construction of a student center, field house

Student Center
The $13.6 million Student Center will be the focus of student life for both residential and commuter students. It will
include a dining area, food stations providing varied menu choices, multi-purpose rooms, campus life offices, offices and
meeting rooms for student clubs, game room, a theater and lounges, a campus pub, technology for wireless computing,
a 20-foot media wall for displaying information about campus events and activities, and an environment enhanced for
computer gaming. Atop the second floor, an ecumenical space will provide “a quiet place for reflection” available for
those of all faiths.

Field House
The $20 million Field House will be home to the Wildcats’ 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics and campus
intramural and recreation programs. With seating for 3,500, the building will accommodate commencement and other
large events. It will include a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor running/walking track, sports training facilities, a
high-tech sports medicine/training room, and team locker rooms. To accompany the Field House will be a new, lighted
turf field, new baseball field, and improvements to the existing softball field.
Turf Field
The Turf Field will be built adjacent to the Field House. It will be the envy of the NEAC conference and serve as
the Wildcats’ home field for men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. In addition, the lighted field will provide
numerous opportunities to serve as the host site for other local and regional sports, community and related events,
bringing thousands of participants and spectators to the SUNYIT campus each year.

Residence Hall
Our new $23.5 million Residence Hall will provide the freshman class at SUNYIT with a new suite-style living
experience. Some 240 students will live and learn in ten suites, with eight suites featuring a two-story living room with
a spiral staircase. In addition to suite-style living, amenities will include studies, student storage, a building kitchen for
shared use, and laundry rooms.
Center for Advanced Technology
The $27.5 million Center for Advanced Technology will be the focal point for academic activity and applied research in
engineering, cybersecurity and nanotechnology. This state-of-the-art complex will showcase SUNYIT’s growing role
in 21st century education, research and workforce development in our region.
