Who are these qualifications for?<br />
The qualification will be offered at three skill levels:<br />
Certificate, Diploma <strong>and</strong> Advanced Diploma. The<br />
certificate level is suitable for those without catering<br />
experience who need <strong>to</strong> learn the basics of food <strong>and</strong> drink<br />
service techniques.<br />
The diploma level is suitable for those with some level of<br />
experience aiming <strong>to</strong> upgrade existing skills <strong>and</strong><br />
knowledge.<br />
The advanced Diploma level is suitable for experienced<br />
c<strong>and</strong>idates looking for career progression or <strong>to</strong> develop<br />
further advanced food <strong>and</strong> beverage techniques as well as<br />
develop supervisory skills.<br />
What skills will be developed in this qualification?<br />
The qualification will be offered at three distinct skill levels:<br />
Certificate, Diploma <strong>and</strong> Advanced Diploma.<br />
Certificate in <strong>Food</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Beverage</strong> <strong>Service</strong><br />
(480 hours)<br />
This qualification offers a sound introduction <strong>to</strong> basic food<br />
<strong>and</strong> beverage skills. Some of the units are generic such as<br />
safety, security <strong>and</strong> menu knowledge. The practical units<br />
are based on the provision of food <strong>and</strong> beverage service<br />
<strong>and</strong> include pre service procedures <strong>and</strong> food <strong>and</strong><br />
beverage service.<br />

A two hour written test with 60 multiple choice questions.<br />
Progression<br />
On successful achievement of the Certificate qualification<br />
c<strong>and</strong>idates will be able <strong>to</strong> progress on <strong>to</strong> the Diploma<br />

The diploma is suitable for those with some level of<br />
experience or successful completion of the certificate. The<br />
c<strong>and</strong>idates' skills are developed through the use of a<br />
greater range of service skills for example silver service,<br />
counter service <strong>and</strong> carvery or buffet service. Additional<br />
generic units are introduced such as cus<strong>to</strong>mer care <strong>and</strong><br />
product knowledge. The Diploma provides this broader<br />
range of skills <strong>and</strong> is suitable for a person operating as a<br />
front line worker with some supervisory responsibilities.<br />

assessments. These are assessed locally <strong>and</strong> moderated<br />

A two <strong>and</strong> a half hour written test with 100 multiple choice<br />
questions.<br />

Diploma programme.<br />
