KEEPING HEALTHY
Prevent your household from
Malaria this Rainy Season
The rainy season does not only bring floods,
it also causes traffic jams. Pools of stagnant
or slow-flowing water from rain provide a
breeding ground for insects such as
mosquitoes that transmit diseases like
malaria.
Malaria is caused by an infection of the red
blood cells with a tiny organism or parasite
called protozoa.
These organisms are carried from person to
person by the anopheles mosquito. When
anopheles mosquito bites an infected
person, it sucks up blood containing the
parasite, which may then be passed on to
the mosquito's next victim.
What are the Symptoms?
The main symptom of malaria is a fever that
occurs in regular episodes, with sweating,
shivers and exhaustion. In some cases, it can
affect the brain or kidneys.
Preventive Measures
The most effective step is to avoid being
bitten by mosquitoes.
Corporate Social Responsibility
This can be achieved by:
Eradicating mosquito breeding sites
Using effective insect repellent
Using mosquito nets to avoid being bitten
by the insect
Using prescribed malaria drugs to fight the
parasite before it incubates
Wearing long-sleeved clothing
Keep your household healthy always by
following these preventive measures to help
eradicate malaria for good.
In the event that you are bitten by the insect,
please consult your doctor before taking any
medication.
Joke of the Month
Several weeks after a young man had been hired,
he was called into the personnel director's office.
“What is the meaning of this?” the director
asked. “When you applied for this job, you told
us you had five years experience. Now we
discovered this is the first job you've ever held.”
“Well,” the young man replied, “in your
advertisement you said you wanted somebody
with imagination.”
