Why do leading manufacturers of high performance machining centers
rely on BERG HK and HKR grippers?
HK/HKR grippers reduce chip-to-chip time!
Latest technology low friction surface coating requires no lubrication
» The special coating means that HK and HKR grippers consistently transmit clamping force to
the tool holder, ensuring that tools are always securely clamped. In addition, lubrication or
other maintenance is never required, reducing overall machine maintenance requirements.
HKR model dramatically reduces chip-to-chip time
» The HKR gripper’s patented “snap-hold” function holds a tool in the spindle in the unclamped
position, allowing a tool to be changed independently of the clamp and release cycle of
the drawbar system. This feature reduces the chip-to-chip time and therefore the nonproductive
time considerably. In customer applications, 0.4 to 0.5 seconds per tool change
cycle are saved.
Additional features and benefits of the HK and HKR grippers
» A short clamping stroke and a compact spring package can be used because of the gripper’s
4-5x force intensification.
» Simple and safe installation without the need for special tools.
» Large center bore allows for high coolant flow.
» Simple to machine and measure spindle contour facilitates spindle production.
» Suitable for horizontal and vertical machine spindles.
» Competitive pricing means that an HSK spindle does not need to cost much more than a
standard taper spindle.
