INSPIRATIONS
Pillow Poshness... Pile up the pillows, and pile on the fun! Most of them were cut and
sewn to fit our standard pillow forms, but look to Simplicity pattern #4108, to help get you
started. For some, we pieced together squares of our bold fabrics for fabulous,
color-blocked appeal. For others, we created custom appliqués by cutting shapes directly from
our chic prints. Tip: We accented many of our pillows with custom-embellished buttons; some
were covered with fabric and others were decoupaged with simple fabric cutouts.
Never Be Board!
Wall space can be a problem
for a busy tween. She’ll have
posters, photos, and momentos
to fill every inch of her precious
turf. That’s why this functional
footboard will be a welcome
addition to her room. It looks
fabulous, and it’s the perfect
catch-all for postcards, clippings,
or any little thing she wants to
display. Best of all, there’s no
sewing required! We used hot
glue to hold everything in place
— foam board, batting, fabric,
ribbons, and buttons. We used
a button kit, available in Sewing
Notions, to make professional
fabric-covered buttons. A simple
weekend DIY project that can take
her from tween to sweet sixteen!
We outfitted an entire bedroom
—from linens to lampshades—
using hip, tween-friendly fabrics!
Mixed Bag... Every girl loves a brand new bag. This sassy handmade tote was sewn using
Simplicity pattern #2617. The trendy patchwork pattern allowed us to mix and match oodles of our
bright, happy prints. Totally chic and perfectly functional, this purse is great for school or shopping.
And it goes especially well with our easy-to-make headbands (shown inside.)

Alphabetical
Pillows, pillows, and more
pillows—they’re essential to
any cute and cozy space and
were so much fun to make!
They’re sewn using Simplicity
pattern #4928 and a boatload
of eye-popping fabrics. Puffy,
fluffy, and oh-so-adorable, they
can spell out a name, a favorite
team, or anything that suits
their fancy. They even look
great on a bed or a shelf, and
make terrific wall art too!
Shade Upgrade
«
No-sew was the way to go for this quick
and easy project. Recycling vintage metal-frame
shades, we cut strips and strips of coordinating
fabric, finishing the ends with pinking shears.
We folded the strips over the top of the frame and
tacked them in place with double-sided adhesive.
Tip: Add a beaded garland (made using translucent
beads and baubles from the Jewelry Dept.)
for movement and fun!
« Happy Headbands
These girly accessories were so much
fun to make! We turned our sweet,
candy-striped fabric into a pair of
totally hip headbands—no stitching
required! On the left, we wrapped
a satin headband (available in the
Wedding Dept.) with fabric—hot glue
on the underside of the headband
held the fabric in place. On the right,
we simply cut a strip of fabric, ironed
under the sides and finished the
short ends with pinking shears. It
ties under the hair like a scarf.
Bed Threads
Made with bright polka-dots, striking stripes, and a
mountain of bright and fluffy pillows, this bedroom
ensemble is any teen’s dream! Our look features a
diva-worthy duvet, sewn using Simplicity pattern #5600.
We made the coordinating dust ruffle and pillow shams
using McCall’s pattern #4629.
Ready to Shine

No need to throw away the old! We matched this
old accent lamp to our newly designed space by
simply recovering the shade! Now it’s right at home
in our groovy tween-scene bedroom.

The Name Game
Personalization is key in any girl’s bedroom. Our
precious padded headboard was the perfect spot
for staking a claim. We traced “Samantha” onto
contrasting fabrics, sewing the layers together
with a decorative zigzag stitch. Then, we applied
fusible web to the back of the letters, according to
the manufacturer’s directions. Finally, we ironed
the letters to the fabric-covered headboard for an
adorable boost of purely personal style.
