Goal 2: To make the roadways and waterways of Sarasota
County safe places on which to travel.
Vehicle crashes account for signicant amounts of property damage and cause large numbers of injuries and
deaths each year. Travelers want to feel condent that those whom they are sharing the transport system with
are competent and exhibit safe operang pracces. Strong law enforcement visibility on Sarasota’s roadways
and waterways deters operators from engaging in dangerous or criminal behavior and raises awareness
of unsafe pracces. To enable all cizens to safely ulize our roadways, waterways and travel paths, the
Sarasota County Sheri’s Oce will aggressively enforce the trac laws, promote the principles of sharing the
environment with others and encourage individual responsibility for the safety of all transportaon users.
Performance measures or success will be quaned by: Enhanced enforcement and educaon campaigns
regarding crashes, crash related injuries and fatalies. Public recognion of eorts to minimize trac
complaints, aggressive driving, DUI occurrences and speeding issues.
