balance since 2002 wherein the import bill has far exceeded<br />

export earnings. In order to contain the import bill which has<br />

reached a record high of close to US$6 billion against export<br />

earnings of around US$4 billion in 2011, it is essential to promote<br />

the consumption of locally manufactured goods and services. With<br />

the revival of industry, a paradigm shift is needed for consumers<br />

to develop strong preference for locally-produced goods and<br />

services.<br />

In this regard, the Government will fully support industry and<br />

commerce, Consumer Council of Zimbabwe and Civil Society<br />

in promoting the use and consumption of goods and services<br />

produced in Zimbabwe under the “Buy Zimbabwe Campaign”<br />

initiative. The Government will also endeavour to give priority<br />

to local producers of goods and services for its procurement<br />

requirements. Industry and commerce is strongly encouraged<br />

to source their raw materials and inputs locally where these are<br />

readily available.<br />
