An Ambiance of Luxury and Comfort
Await at Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort
Newly renovated and upgraded, Ceiba del Mar offers guests the ultimate in first
class accommodations, cuisine, spa treatments, and service.
By Jennifer M. Lane
Located at the edge of Puerto Morelos on a
stretch of secluded beach, Ceiba del Mar
offers guests the utmost in serenity, personal
space, beautiful Mayan and
Mexican architecture, and warm hospitality.
The hotel opened in 2001 and, after sustaining damage
by Hurricane Wilma, it was completely upgraded to an
all luxury resort. It is now a much more intimate property,
catering to a mature oriented clientele.
“After Hurricane Wilma, the decision was made to renovate
and completely upgrade to an all luxury hotel featuring
the best in gourmet cuisine and accommodations,”
says Michael Cojocea, Director of Marketing and
Sales, Ceiba del Mar. “The renovation process has taken
a long time but has been well worth the wait as guests will
now find 88 private units, 47 of which are suites, and
seven luxurious penthouses with breathtaking ocean
views.”
Rooms with a View
Room categories at Ceiba del Mar include Deluxe
Rooms, Junior Suites, Master Suites, and Master Suites
with Mini Pool, but it is the one bedroom penthouses
that are the star of this high end property. Designed for
elite travelers, with private elevator access and impeccable
decoration, these seven dazzling penthouses are perfect
for a romantic and intimate getaway. The separated
living room area offers amazing views and access to a private
terrace with whirlpool to enjoy fantastic sunsets or
romantic dinners under the stars.
All rooms come with the finest of things: 300 thread
cotton sheets, a pillow menu, private balcony or terrace
with a hammock, fine cotton bathrobes and slippers,
maid service, private butler service, personalized minibar
service, and exclusive bath amenities. Charming and
unique, the in-room complementary continental breakfast
is served through a private butler box. Guests place
their order and through the magic of a “secret window”
in the hallway, breakfast appears in the room when you
wake up!
For those who need to stay connected, there is complementary
Wireless Internet Access, international Cable
TV and DVD/CD player, two telephones, and data port.
Their library offers complementary computers with internet
access.
Guests’ every need is tended
to with the utmost attention.
“The property has about 250
employees for its 88 rooms,”
states Mr. Cojocea, “which
means service is of the highest
quality.”
Activities for All
A variety of activities are
available to choose from during
your stay, including
MICHAEL COJOCEA
Pilates, and Aqua fit programs; and strolling down the
Mangrove walkway and Meditation Palapa. There is a
For those wanting to explore the Riviera Maya further,
Ceiba del Mar offers a tour desk and concierge who hand
pick excursion to fit the needs of their high end clients,
with tours featuring smaller transportation, smaller
groups, and the best of guides.
Their gorgeous pier is the perfect setting for weddings,
parties, and romantic dinners. A group and wedding coordinator
is available to help with all events.
Culinary Delights
The two restaurants of Ceiba del Mar offer an exquisite
blend of Traditional and Creative Mexican cuisine with
Mediterranean influence. Xtabay Restaurant presents a
sumptuous, buffet breakfast and dinner with a Mexican
touch. Arrecife Grill & Lounge features a la carte breakfast,
CEVICHE MADE PERSONAL AT
AZUL BLUE HOTEL + SPA
During lunchtime at View, the open-air
restaurant at the new Azul Blue Hotel + Spa, a
crew of talented Cevicheros (expert ceviche
chefs) prepare fish in frozen bowls on mobile,
granite stations. Instead of heat, ceviche is
“cooked” in citric juices, which have the same
effect as heat on seafood proteins, so it tastes
less like sashimi and more like a cooked dish.
Hotel guests can choose from fresh seafood
caught a few miles offshore each morning, and
personalize their ceviche with a variety of local
vegetables, tropical fruits, herbs and chilies.
The made-to-order ceviche is prepared tableside,
prompting interaction between guests
DOMINICA UNVEILS NEW
BRANDING
The Ministry of Tourism for Dominica announced
that it has adopted a new logo and
tagline as part of a larger rebranding of the
destination. The tagline, “Defy the Everyday:
The Nature Island of Dominica,” and logo will
be utilized in Dominica’s marketing campaign
from now forward with inclusion in all marketing,
collateral material, print advertising and
website development.
The new logo and tagline are designed to
better reflect the island’s positioning and target
visitor as well as differentiate it from the
competition. Green Team Advertising of the
U.S. was contracted to conduct the extensive
research that would identify the island’s
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats to determine the target market for
Dominica’s tourism. Their findings revealed
that Dominica is not perceived as a “sun, sea
and sand” destination, but rather a nature destination
that, although it is located in the
Caribbean, and appeals to global travelers who
C A R I B B E A N
are described as “life enthusiasts” looking for
physical, mental and spiritual wellness alongside
nature in their leisure journeys. In addition,
these people seek new and unexpected
experiences, personal challenges and the possibility
of the unknown. They are typically leaders,
are intrigued by new theories and prefer to
make something rather than buy it.
“Our new logo and tagline speak more effectively
to our target audience, while also effectively
differentiating us from some of our primary
competitors,” said Yvor Nassief, Minister
of Tourism, Industry and Private Sector
Relations for Dominica. “We feel strongly that
this new branding portrays the uniqueness of
Dominica and better enables us to compete on
the worldwide tourism market as a destination
for nature enthusiasts. By utilizing this niche
market approach to tourism development, we
can advance our growth in a healthy, sustainable
manner that is consistent with our objective
to protect and preserve the product.”
Dominica continues to be recognized for its
attributes and sustainable tourism efforts, including
being the first country in the world to
receive Benchmarking designation from the
prestigious eco-tourism organization Green
Globe 21 and ranking as the only Caribbean
destination in the top five happiest countries
CTO SECRETARY GENERAL DELIVERS SPEECH AT
ST. KITTS AWARDS BANQUET
Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Secretary-General Vincent
Vanderpool-Wallace was the keynote speaker at St. Kitts’ 2006 Tourism
Week Awards Banquet, held Saturday October 14, 2006 at the St. Kitts
Marriott. Mr. Vanderpool-Wallace joined with St. Kitts & Nevis’ Prime
Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas in addressing the award recipients and local
residents who were present at the event.
Mr. Vanderpool-Wallace’s remarks addressed what the Caribbean
needs to do in order to be competitive globally in the tourism industry.
His comments were complementary to those of Prime Minister Douglas,
who discussed the island’s tourism development and the key role that
Kittitians play in the success of this endeavor.
The Tourism Week Awards Banquet served as the conclusion of Tourism
Week, a week long series of events held annually devoted to increasing
public awareness of the importance of tourism and its impact on the
economy of St. Kitts. Over the course of the week, hundreds of Kittitians
were introduced to the tourism industry. Tourism Week has assumed
new importance on St Kitts as the destination transitions from an economy
driven by the agribusiness of sugarcane production to a service-oriented
market economy driven by hospitality and tourism because it focuses
on empowerment of the Kittitian people and human resource
development, two key factors cited in recent research studies as primary
focal areas for the development of the island’s tourism industry.
Tourism Week included such activities as a job experience program,
slogan competitions, hospitality guest speakers in schools, a youth congress,
training workshops and customer service seminars. Highlights
from this year’s events, which primarily targeted the island’s youth, included
the Local Food Symposium, Youth Congress, Bartender’s
Competition, Tourism Work Experience and Steel Pan Competition
amongst the local high schools. Tourism Work Experience consisted of
placing 172 students in tourism-related businesses for a day to gain a
greater knowledge and understanding of the hospitality industry.
This year’s winners included: Tour Operator of the Year (USA): GOGO
CARIBBEAN CLUB BONAIRE UNDER NEW
MANAGEMENT
Caribbean Club Bonaire, the 26-unit resort located north of Kralendijk
at the foot of Bonaire’s scenic route and hills, has announced that it is
now under the new management of Solar Management as of October 1,
2006.
“We are very pleased to add Caribbean Club Bonaire to our portfolio,”
says Solar Management’s Managing Director, Ruud van Baal.“It complements
our other properties perfectly. Although we will use the potential
synergy within our group, like our other properties, Caribbean Club
Bonaire will be branded and operated separately giving the property its
own identity and serving a specific market segment.”
“Where Buddy Dive Resort operates in the (hard core) dive market
within the 3 – 3-1/2 star segment and Belmar Oceanfront Apartments in
the more upscale leisure and dive segment, Caribbean Club Bonaire
clearly will be the affordable alternative within the budget dive, leisure,
family & Eco-adventure markets. The tag line “Dive, Relax & Explore” reflects
that philosophy,” adds van Baal.“All of Solar Management’s properties
can be defined by providing an excellent value-for-money ratio
with outstanding operations and services while the personal attention
of our staff makes the difference.Caribbean Club Bonaire will have those
characteristics as well.”
Caribbean Club Bonaire features 20 one- and two-bedroom cottages
as well as four studios and two penthouses with ocean views from
Bonaire’s West coast.Together with its own on-premises full service dive
shop, restaurant, bar and swimming pool, Caribbean Club Bonaire is the
perfect place for divers, leisure travelers and outdoor adventurers looking
for affordable accommodation with full service resort facilities. The
Hilltop Bar & Restaurant offers daily breakfast, lunch, dinner and a
weekly entertaining BBQ.
Daily rates start at $60 per day for a studio while complete Dive &
Explore Packages start at $476 per week and include seven nights accommodation
and car rental, transfer from/to the airport, daily breakfast,
six days unlimited shore diving and all taxes based on five persons
in a two-bedroom cottage. The diving portion of the package may be exchanged
with an Adventure Package that includes a Kayak Mangrove
trip, a Cave Snorkel Excursion, one day mountain bike use and one day
snorkel set use.
Besides diving, Caribbean Club Bonaire is the perfect place to discover
the many other eco-adventures Bonaire has to offer. Bird watching, hiking,
mountain biking, cave exploration, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing
and trips to the Washington Slagbaai Park or the Goto-lake are just a few
of the activities to explore while staying at the Resort.
One of Bonaire’s best dive and snorkel sites, Oil Slick Leap, known as
“fantastically easy” is a giant stride away. Within a 10-minute driving
range, more than 10 other well-known dive sites are within reach.
In the coming months, the property will be upgraded with a focus on
replacing furniture and inventory in the cottages, soft renovations, restocking
and redesigning the on-premises dive shop, and improving services
within the daily operations. The upgrading of the property will not
effect or disturb the guests in-house. Presently, the construction of eight
two-bedroom units is being executed outside the existing resort area,
and these will be integrated at the end of 2007. One or two phases more
phases will follow which will result in a 50+ unit resort by the end of
fastest-growing industries on Earth. Also during
that time, dedicated travel professionals
and their clients have come to regard the World
Travel Awards as the best endorsement that
any travel product could receive.
Candidates for nomination are based upon
the previous year's voting. Voting is cast by
travel agents in over 200 countries around the
world. Regional geographical categories are
broken down from the Whole World category
into eight smaller areas - Africa, Asia/Pacific,
Caribbean, Central & Latin America, Europe,
Middle East, North America and South
America. These are then further divided into all
areas of the travel industry. Additional worldwide
awards covering specific markets, such as
World's Leading Sports Resort,World's Leading
Private Island, to name but two, broaden the
scope of the voting. Thousands of votes each
year are registered online at the official World
Travel Awards website, with most of the leading
travel internet sites offering additional online
voting facilities.
