Uniforms
Indian Coast Guard
Directorate of Logistics
Coast Guard Headquarters
New Delhi - 110001

Preface
1. Morale and uniform are woven together. The high morale of Indian Coast Guard must
be reflected in immaculately stitched uniforms which every member of ICG dons. As the
essence of any uniform is uniformity, there should be no deviations, from the laid down
specifications. Manufacturing defects, lack of knowledge of the correct specifications by
the tailor or personal preferences should therefore not come in the way of uniformity. In
the past three decades ICG uniforms have undergone many changes. Many new uniforms
have been added and many have been changed. It is therefore important that correct
details of all uniforms, their specifications and correct stitching pattern are available.
2. ‘CGBR on Uniforms’ is an effort to consolidate details of all uniforms and accessories,
their correct specifications and method of wearing for easy single point reference.
I am sure this book will answer many questions very frequently raised regarding
specifications and method of wearing of different articles of uniforms.
3. My compliments to Principal Director of Logistics for preparing and publishing of
this book whose need was felt for long.
The voyage to acquire this glamorous official document
was a fun all the way. The selection of models was a
first milestone and when we had chosen our own models,
not because of budgetary constraints but we felt ours are
better-don’t believe it, just accept it. When we started
with fabrication of uniforms, we realised that identifying
the correct specifications was a challenge even bigger
amidst the numerous policy letters. The last minute
corrections and suggestions while the cameraman was
ready to shoot, though irritating, would be the moments
to cherish in years to come.
The photo shoot, which we thought will be over in a
week, went on for a month due to the high resolution
cameras, which proved to be superior to the human eyes
in reflecting errors. At the end, making of this book
made us to learn the art of bookmaking and of course
correct ourselves to wear uniform in right ways.
