The colours
of the ghetto
Aline Sax
Illustrated by Caryl Strzelecki
Warschau, October 1940. The part of the city where Misja
lives, has been transformed into a ghetto. All the Jews from
Warschau and the surroundings are put and imprisoned
there. Illnesses, hunger and deportations gradually exterminate
the population. Misja doesn’t want to reconcile himself
to the situation. He looks for ways out of the ghetto, brings
food to his family and joins the resistance…
An intriguing story. At times both text and illustrations
make you grasp for air.
Themes: World War II, Jew, ghetto, resistance
The author’s son is now almost three years old and he still
writes letters to the boy. Tenderly and with a lot of humor, he
describes recognizable situations and feelings for all those
who have a two-year-old in the house. About the first day of
school, mummy’s big belly and the birth of a second brother,
the second snow, the playground,…
The gift books by Wouter Deprez are a must-have for every
parent. Tender, recognizable and witty.
