FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS BY NCA/NDA TEAMS
CAN I REFER A CHILD FOR A WISH?
The Make-A-Wish Foundation ® only accepts referrals from potential wish children, their
parents or legal guardian, or their health care professionals. Only those individuals can
refer a child to have a wish granted, and only a doctor can determine whether the child
is medically eligible for a wish. If you know of a child that has a life-threatening medical
condition, please refer potential wish families to their local chapter or the Make-A-Wish
referral inquiry form here: http://wish.org/refer/referral_inquiry_form.
HOW CAN I BECOME A VOLUNTEER AT MY LOCAL MAKE-A-WISH ® CHAPTER?
There are many volunteer opportunities at your local Make-A-Wish chapter. These
opportunities can range from wish granting to staffing events to office assistance, etc.
Contact your local Make-A-Wish chapter by visiting wish.org to find out how you can
volunteer your time. The chapter will be able to identify opportunities available based
on your schedule and interests.
CAN A WISH CHILD ATTEND OUR EVENT?
Not every wish child or family wants publicity, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation is
very respectful of that privacy. Once the fundraiser has been approved by all parties,
contact your local Make-A-Wish chapter and ask whether this will be possible. The
chapter can look for a family that is “publicity eligible,” but please accept the chapter’s
decision if a wish child cannot be found for your event.
WHAT IF THE MAKE-A-WISH CHAPTER IS NOT INTERESTED IN HELPING WITH
OUR EVENT?
Just as your team can determine their level of commitment to this program, Make-A-
Wish chapters can also determine their level of support. Make-A-Wish chapters may
have limited resources and may be unable to provide the level of support you request.
The key is establishing a good relationship.
CAN MAKE-A-WISH CHAPTERS SHARE A LIST OF DONORS FOR OUR EVENT?
No. The Make-A-Wish Foundation protects the privacy of its donors and does not sell or
release donor information outside the organization.
