P A G E 2 The Village has selected Tenco Excavating of Bourbonnais, IL to construct Phase 1 of the Village Park planned on the five acre parcel at 12216 S. Will Cook Road next to the Holy Family complex. Construction is expected to start mid-April (weather permitting) and finish by late June. Grass will be planted and be ready for use in Spring 2014. Facilities will include a youth baseball field that can also be used for softball and lacrosse along with backstop, fences, players benches, and a parking lot. Phase 2 may start soon and may include pathways, bleachers, and a basketball half court. TRAFFIC ALERT: ROAD CLOSURE MAY 5, 2013 HALF MARATHON This year’s Half Marathon will be taking place on Sunday May 5, 2013 on Route 83 between Harlem and Archer Avenue. In order to ensure a safe environment for Palos Half Marathon runners, Route 83 will be closed to all traffic on May 5th between roughly 6:00 am and 11:00 am. We encourage you to avoid the area if possible and seek alternative native routes during this time frame. Possible alternatives to Route 83 would be 111th Street, 123rd Street, 131st, Street Rt. 45, Harlem Avenue, and Ridgeland Avenue. PALOS AND SAG VALLEY PRESERVES TRAIL OF THE MONTH! BBQ JUDGE TRAINING Saturday, June 1- 11:00 am to 1:00 Recreation Center, 8901 W. 123rd Street If you are interested in judging the BBQ Contest at Autumn In The Park Festival on September 21, 2013 you will be required to have judging certification through either the Kansas City Barbeque Society or by completing the training through the Village on June 1st. Village training will consist of review of the contest rules and criteria for judging BBQ ribs. We have 20 spots available for training. He previously served on the Village Council as Commissioner of Building and Public Property. The position was vacated when Kent Oliven resigned in late 2012. Commissioner Pavlatos was sworn in at the March 11th Village Council Meeting. Village Council Approves Water Rates for 2013 The Village of Palos Park’s water supplier, the Village of Oak Lawn, received notice that the water rates would increase consistent with the City of Chicago’s rate increases for the years 2012-2015. Those rate increases were built into the Village Code. The Village of Oak Lawn is in the process of putting together a plan for major water system improvements including a new 60’’ transmission line. The additional charges for these upgrades will be passed along to the Village. Residents will pay an additional $ .32 over the current rate Lake Michigan Water Rate Water Capital Improvement Bond Sanitary Sewer Rate Sanitary Sewer Capital Improvement Bond Onsite Sewer - Aerobic System Onsite Sewer - Septic System Onsite Re-inspection Fees Refuse Late Payment Fee Palos Park Utility Rates - Per Month $10.94 per thousand gallons of water supplied (Effective January 1, 2013-December 31, 2013) $6.50 per month $2.00 per thousand gallons of water used (Minimum of three thousand gallons billed per month) $6.50 per month $21.25 per month $4.17 per month $35.00 per inspection $19.16 per month Greater of $27.00 or 10% of amount due Attention: Residents Using Online Bill-Pay to Pay Utility Bills: When you choose to pay your utility bill through your bank’s online bill-pay system, please allow at least 10 days for the payment to reach our office. Even though your bank may debit your account immediately for the amount you are paying, the bank then has to issue a check and mail it to our office. This typically takes 10 or more days. In order to not incur a late fee your payment must be received by the Village by the due date; this does not always occur with the online bank payments. To ensure that your utility bill is paid on time, please allow at least 10 days for online bank payments to reach us. Remember the Village offers Direct Debit which will automatically process your payment on the due date.
