The Osborne Park Agricultural Hall<br />

The Osborne Park Agricultural Hall was <strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong> the earliest buildings that <strong>to</strong>ok<br />

shape in Osborne Park. The hall opened in 1912 with rousing celebrati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

including a grand ball and lunch for more than 300 local children. The<br />

building <strong>to</strong>ok less than three m<strong>on</strong>ths <strong>to</strong> complete at a cost <strong>of</strong> £6000, which<br />

was largely funded by local residents.<br />

Over the years, the hall hosted a variety <strong>of</strong> community activities including<br />

dances and c<strong>on</strong>certs. In 1929, a projecti<strong>on</strong> room was added <strong>to</strong> cater for<br />

movie screenings. The original hall <strong>on</strong> Main Street was demolished in 1962<br />

and has since been rebuilt several times <strong>on</strong> the same site.<br />

The <strong>City</strong>’s inaugural Youth Week Awards have acknowledged the great efforts <strong>of</strong><br />

young people aged between 12 and 25 across the community. In April, Deputy<br />

Mayor David Michael presented prizes <strong>to</strong> winners in six categories at the <strong>City</strong>’s<br />

Elevate youth event.<br />

Amy Cooke received the Eco Warrior award for her efforts creating a small<br />

business that produces reusable bags <strong>to</strong> help reduce the use <strong>of</strong> plastic bags in the<br />

community. The Creative Flair award went <strong>to</strong> Atara Lebransky for her enthusiasm<br />

in performing for community groups and taking part in fundraising performances.<br />

Caitlin Dransfield w<strong>on</strong> the Community Ambassador prize for her admirable<br />

volunteer efforts with Wheelchair Sports WA, helping run a junior sports program.<br />

Commitment <strong>to</strong> local sporting groups and dedicati<strong>on</strong> <strong>to</strong> the Paralympic football<br />

program at Wheelchair Sports WA w<strong>on</strong> Chris<strong>to</strong>pher Barty the Power Packed<br />

award. Shayne Walters received the Tough Nut h<strong>on</strong>our for her strength and<br />

courage in acting as a primary carer for a close relative. The Bright Spark<br />

award went <strong>to</strong> Melanie Jacks<strong>on</strong> for her outstanding c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong> <strong>to</strong> scouting and<br />

supporting underpriveliged communities in Botswana. C<strong>on</strong>gratulati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>to</strong> all the<br />

award winners.<br />
