BAPTISM
Baptisms are celebrated every Sunday at 12:45 pm. Please call
the Parish Office to register for the Baptism. Pre-Jordan classes
required for parents and optional for godparents, are offered the
second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Parish
Center unless otherwise noted in the bulletin. Baptisms are
limited to four children per Sunday. Letters of eligibility are
due at the Parish Center before a date can be given for
Baptism.
MARRIAGE
Arrangements must be made with a priest at least six months in
advance. You must speak to a priest before making
arrangements for a reception hall. Scheduling, rescheduling or
cancellation MUST be done by a priest. Pre-Cana classes are
required for all couples. Please contact Dave or Kelly Mazeroski

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY OF IN ORDINARY TIME
OUR FAITH CORNER
Saints for July
July 14th– Saint Kateri Tekakwitha– was born in New York, in 1656 to a Christian Algonquin and a Mohawk Indian
Chief. She became an orphan at the age of four losing both her mother and father to smallpox which also left her disfigured.
In 1675 she embraced the Catholic Faith through her contacts with Jesuit Missionaries. She immediately
consecrated her life to Christ. Because of her devotion to Christ she was often severely persecuted by her own people
and treated as a slave. She is known as the “Lily of the Mohawks.” She was beatified in 1980 and canonized in 2012.
July 15th– Saint Bonaventure–was born in Italy, in 1218. As a young boy he contacted a serious illness and was
cured through the prayers of St. Francis of Assisi. He studied liberal arts in Paris and inspired by St. Francis and other
learned Friars. He entered the Franciscan Order and became in turn a teacher of theology. With St. Thomas Aquinas,
his good friend, Bonaventure received his Doctorate in Theology in 1257 from the University of Paris. He not only
enlightened the minds of those he taught, but also stirred their hearts. He is a Doctor of the Church.
July 17th– Saint Francis Solano– was born in Spain in 1549 to one of the leading families of the area. In 1570 he
entered the Friars Minor and after his ordination began to care for the poor and sick always sacrificing himself for others.
He was sent to South America in 1589 where he continued his work in Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. Francis
quickly adopted to his new duties and learned the native languages. While visiting the sick he often played his violin
and sang native songs to improve their spirits. He worked diligently to defend the indigenous population from oppression.
July 20th– Saint Apollinaris –is an early martyr of the 1st Century A.D. He was born in Italy and Peter sent Apollinaris
to Ravenna as its first Bishop. His preaching was so successful that the pagans beat him and drove him from
the city. He continued to preach and gather converts until he died from wounds received during a savage beating.

Father Pio Mandato, F.M.J.J. Father Pio was born in Italy and
received his First Holy Communion from the famous stigmatist,
Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, who knew his family
well. Father Pio Mandato is now a Franciscan priest who lives
a life of prayer and solitude as a missionary hermit. His parents
reside in Corpus Christi Parish in Lansdale.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Our Vacation Bible School was a great success! We had beautiful
weather and the children had lots of fun traveling down the
trail through the Old Testament stories of Moses to discover
God's ultimate power and plan of salvation through Jesus.
Thank you to the 85 volunteers who assisted in a great program
for the 105 children that attended. Thanks to the corporate
sponsors Superior Tube of Collegeville and NexGen Training
Center of Telford for their financial contributions. Thank you to
Valerie Starnes-Regen for the loan of her saddle, whip, spurs
and hat displayed at the front entrance into VBS. Also, thank
you Stepping Stones Nursery School & Daycare for allowing us
to share in the Education Building space.
REGISTRATION SUNDAY
Registration Sunday will take place TODAY, July
14th. Please stop by the Parish Center between
the hours of 10am and 1pm to be officially
welcomed into the parish. No paperwork is
necessary from your previous parish. The process

MONTHLY HOLY HOUR
A great opportunity for stewardship!
Holy Hour gives the parish an opportunity to pray for the needs
of the church especially vocations to the priesthood and
religious life. The Holy Hour will include public prayer (Liturgy
of the Hours) and private prayer before the Blessed
Sacrament. Everyone is welcome. Holy Hour is held the
Thursday evening before First Friday at 7pm. The next Holy
Hour will be on Thursday, August 1st at 7pm.

PRAYER LINE
Our Parish Prayer Line consists of five adult prayer groups.
Requests for prayers for the prayer line may be given by
calling the Parish Center at 215-721-0199. Your prayer
request is mentioned in the prayers of those on the line for 2
weeks and then included in their prayers for the following
weeks in an inclusive prayer. Anyone wishing to become a
member of the parish prayer line ministry can join at any time
by calling the Parish Center.

POOR BOX STEWARDSHIP

BENEFITS ST. MARY’S FRANCISCAN SHELTER
Before leaving our church building each weekend, please
consider stopping by one of our poor boxes located in the
narthex, with your contributions. For the months of June and
July 2013, all offerings from the poor box will be designated to
St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter. This non-profit organization,
located in Phoenixville, PA, is an emergency shelter assisting
homeless families to get back on their feet. Since its formation
in 1987, they have housed more than 540 families and
provided more than 50,000 nights of shelter and 150,000
meals. They also provide additional services to the residents,
which consist of helping them develop marketable skills, a
presentable resume, facilitate job interviews and help to
arrange transportation once a job is found. The organization’s
ultimate goal is to move a motivated family from crisis to
independence, eventually maintaining their own homes outside
the residence. Please consider helping those that are less
fortunate. If donating by check, please make payable to St.

COMMUNITY PANTRY DRIVE ~
JULY 20/21
Once again the members of St. Maria Goretti
Parish are called on the help feed our hungry
neighbors. The July Pantry Drive will be
assisting Food Pantries at St. Mary the Virgin,
Schwenksville, Emmanuel Evangelical
Church of Hatfield and Hatfield Church of the
Brethren. AND they have wish lists:
St. Mary's is asking for canned goods (fruit,
tuna, spam, & chicken), pasta sauce, jelly,
cereal and healthy snacks as well as Personal care items -
deodorant, toothpaste, soaps and Household Cleaners and
paper products. (No beans or pasta at this time please.)
Emmanuel Evangelical is asking for Canned Goods (diced
tomatoes, whole tomatoes, tomato sauce, asparagus, beets,
lima beans, potatoes, spinach, collards, etc.); Ready to eat
cold cereals, regular (not sugar free) jello or pudding, liquid
dish soap, Feminine pads or tampons, bath tissue (individually
wrapped if possible).
Hatfield Church of the Brethren would like Healthy Kids
Snacks (pudding cups, fruit snacks, crackers, teddy grahams,
applesauce pouches, fruit cups, cereal/breakfast bars, granola
bars) and condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup, salad dressing).
Please help us with the sorting your donations -- While generally
our pantry partners will accept anything donated (check
our expiration dates before donating!), each has specific requests
and you may have purchased based on a specific wish
list. If this is important to you, please, label your bag(s) and/or
place your bag under the sign for that particular pantry.

your donation, our hungry neighbors and the pantries that

PREP UPDATE
Registration 2013-2014
Registration for the 2013-2014 year is going on now. Current
PREP families should use the pre-printed registration forms
you received. New student registration forms can be found in
the narthex of the church, the Parish Center and on the PREP
section of our website. Forms and fees should be returned to
the parish center during their regular business hours by July
31st. Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
First Communion 2013
The DVDs are here and can be picked up in the narthex of our
church.
Confirmation 2014
If you have a son or daughter who attends Gwynedd Mercy
or one of our Regional Schools and will be preparing for
Confirmation this year, please contact the Religious Education
office to get their name on the list so we can prepare the
appropriate forms. Thank you.
Little Church School
Our Little Church School is our pre-school program for 3, 4
and Kindergarten aged children. Classes are held on Sunday
mornings during the 9:30 Mass. Registration forms can be
found in the church and Parish Center. Class spaces are
limited so please register prior to July 31st.

CLOSING CELEBRATION

Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul
Bus Departs at 9:00 AM
Solemn Mass Begins at 11:00 AM
Join fellow parishioners and other parish communities from
across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the Solemn Closing
Celebration of the Year of Faith on the Solemnity of Christ the
King. Principal Celebrant and Homilist will be Archbishop
Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M.Cap. A bus will leave the parking lot
of Saint Maria Goretti Church promptly at 9:00 AM. Cost is
$10.00 per adult to cover bus expenses; children go free. All
children must be accompanied by an adult to attend. Payment
is non- refundable but is transferable to another person.
FIRST FRIDAY BREAKFAST CLUB
The Breakfast Club is held here at Saint Maria Goretti Parish on
designated First Fridays following the 8:30 AM Mass. It is offered
as part of the Adult Faith Formation Ministry of SMG and
provides a way for people to gather together in friendship following
their time spent together in worship and prayer. It’s as
simple as that! Coffee, tea, juice, and breakfast refreshments
are served along with lots of laughter and conversation. There
is no cost to participate in the Breakfast Club and no registration
is required. Parishioners and non-parishioners are always welcome.
Watch out for our “Breakfast Specials” when a “special
guest” is invited to join us or a “special event” follows. Friday,

Annual Friends of the Poor Walk
On Saturday morning, September 28, 2013, the
Members and Friends of SVdP at St. Maria Goretti
Parish will again be lacing up our walking shoes to
raise money and show ourselves to be "friends of
the poor" at the annual Friends of the Poor Walk.
This year, plans call for us to walk with other members
of the Greater Philadelphia Council at St.
Titus's Parish, Keenwood Rd, East Norriton, the site of the
Council's new offices. From Goretti, we will plan to 'ride share'
that morning and, hopefully, spend some time getting to know
our fellow Vincentians. After a very troubling and stressful year
for the Philadelphia Council, it will be good to share time and
fellowship with those who share our Vincentian Spirit and vocation.
For those of you who plan to walk, you can sign up on line

through the form and sign up as a member of Team Goretti. If
you are not comfortable on the computer sign up forms will be
available in the Parish Center.
MARRIAGE RETREAT
Come celebrate your marriage at a special retreat just a few
blocks from the beach in Cape May Point, New Jersey. This
weekend at the Marianist Family Retreat Center is intended for
couples married at least 10 years. It honors and celebrates the
commitment of marriage. The retreat includes Mass, prayer,
small group discussions, reflection, relaxation, socials, fun, and
plenty of couple time. The weekend is September 27-29, 2013.
Cost: $250 per couple (includes accommodations and all

SMG PARISH APPRECIATION PICNIC &
60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The plans are well underway for our celebration
to be held on Saturday, September 21st immediately
following the 4pm Vigil Mass
(Special time for vigil Mass this day). The picnic
will be held on the SMG ball field and will be
catered. There will be plenty of games for the
kids and entertainment for all. There is no cost
for the day. Check future bulletins for an RSVP form to be
handed in to the Parish Center so we have an idea for the
amount of food. It is a great opportunity to get together with our
parish family and to celebrate our many blessings.
The next picnic planning meeting will be held on Tuesday, July
23rd at 7pm in the Parish Center. Please join us in planning
this fun day!

member in grades 5 to 8 who like to play soccer or
want to learn more about the sport are encouraged
to come out and join our soccer family. Registration

The SASH Crusaders football registration
is now OPEN. Parishioners of St.
Maria Goretti in grades 5th-8th are encouraged
to join the team. We play a 10
game schedule in the Philadelphia
Catholic League and there are no weight limits. We have 2
teams, a JV for 5th & 6th grades and Varsity for 7th and 8th
