Page 14 MANUFACTURING & LOGISTICS Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) The Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) is an industry-led training, assessment and certification system focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation’s production workers. The national MSSC system offers both entry-level and incumbent workers the opportunity to demonstrate that they have mastered the skills needed in the high-growth, technology-intensive jobs of the 21st century. Kent State University at Trumbull is pleased to announce our partnership with MSSC and our certification as a MSSC Test and Training Center. MSSC credentials are based on the National Skill Standards for Manufacturing and are endorsed by the National Association for Manufacturers (NAM). ―We believe the MSSC certification program for production workers will help address the growing skills gap by making it clear to workers what skills they need to work in manufacturing, and at the same time enable manufacturers to identify applicants who have the requisite skills.” John Engler, CEO, National Association of Manufacturers. The MSSC CPT and CLA credentials are designed to help you identify skill gaps, improve productivity and innovation, and assist you in recruiting and retaining qualified workers. MSSC assessments can be used for pre-hiring, pre-training, or pre-promotion purposes. On June 8, 2011 the White House hosted an event focused on building the educated and skilled workforce U.S. manufacturers need to successfully compete in the 21st century economy. President Obama announced the goal of credentialing 500,000 students with skills certifications aligned to manufacturers’ hiring needs, citing The Manufacturing Institute’s NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System as a national solution. The MSSC credentials were highlighted at the regional Manufacturing Workforce Summit held in April, 2012. CERTIFIED PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN (CPT) Gain the skills employers want and earn a national credential to verify your skills. This program is applicable to all manufacturing sectors and all production occupations. The Certified Production Technician includes training and assessment in the following areas: Manufacturing Processes and Production Safety Quality Practices and Measurement Maintenance Awareness You can test in one or more of these categories or test in all four to earn your CPT. Online training courses are available in each category. Now is the time to advance your knowledge and gain the skills manufacturing employers are seeking. Training Fees: $95 per training course/topic ($380 for all 4) Assessment Fees: $55 per topic ($220 for all 4), plus $60 one-time registration fee. CERTIFIED LOGISTICS ASSOCIATE / TECHNICAN The MSSC system leading to a Certified Logistics Technician covers the core skills required for higher skilled, frontline material handling workers across all supply chain facilities: factories, warehouses, distribution centers and transporters. Two levels of certification are available: Entry- level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and mid-level Certified Logistics Technician (CLT). CLA is a prerequisite for CLT. Topics included in these programs include: Global supply chain logistics, material handling, safety, quality control, product receiving and storing, order processing packaging and shipment, inventory control, dispatch and transportation, and more. Detailed instruction will be given to increase awareness of the most common hydraulic problems leading to failure and best practices explained in the diagnostic and corrective phases of hydraulic repair. Root Cause Analysis topics will be discussed leading to Systemic Corrective Action Techniques and Reporting. A review of basic fluid power principles, safety and common symbology first set a foundation. This will be followed with schematic interpolation, proper use of diagnostic equipment, component analysis and malfunction isolation. The use of real-world schematics and digital photography will illustrate troubleshooting techniques that will be amplified by the use of working hands-on hydraulic training equipment, component take-a-parts and cut-a-ways. Students are encouraged to bring copies of machine schematics they would like to review during the class. Prerequisites: An understanding of Fluid Power Basics, and/or previous hydraulic training. Lastly, Hydraulic Power Systems and Troubleshooting is a two part series which focuses on the operation of basic hydraulic circuits, identifying pressure, drain and control lines in a hydraulic system, how load sensing and demand circuits operate and much more.
