The Annual Truro Cornish Wrestling
Tournament will take place on the Cathedral
Green from 10.30am on Saturday 10 th
September 2011.
This annual event has become an established
highlight of the Cornish Wrestling calendar and
evokes memories
for a number of the
now-older and
retired afficianados
of the sport who
first wrassled on
this grassy knoll
when they attended
Truro Cathedral
School in the
1950s.
Be moved… be calmed…
be inspired… be uplifted…
One such was Cornish Wrestling Association
Secretary, Peter Sheldon, who said:
“It’s great to see local businesses working
with Truro Old Cornwall Society and Truro
Cathedral to celebrate Cornish wrasslin’. It
is one of the oldest known sports in Britain
which has been handed down through the
generations, and is part of a tradition
shared by different cultures throughout the
world. I’m always heartened to see young
people from all sorts of backgrounds come
together to watch and participate on this
spot, where I first learned the sport, and to
see the best practitioners today competing
for the Light Heavyweight Championship.”

We welcome Charles Timberlake back again
for a free piano recital on Thursday 25th
August at 1pm in the Cathedral.
Charles’ gentle, reflective music and unique style of
playing bring a sense of deep inner peace into the
heart of the listener. Charles started formal piano
lessons at the age of six and began improvising and
composing eight years later. It was not until his midtwenties
that people gained access to his soulful music
through performances of two musicals he scored at
Yardley Court, the school in Kent where he was
teaching at the time and where he was writing carols
for performance by the school choir. He was
encouraged to record his first album of solo piano
compositions, Between the Worlds, in 1991. Nine
years ago he met songwriter, composer and musical
director John Daniels. Since that meeting they have
collaborated on five CD albums of piano and
instrumental music, with John adding his haunting
orchestral arrangements to Charles’ piano tracks. 2 nd
April this year saw the release of their latest album, A
Time for all Things - a collection of their own
compositions, worship songs, hymns and well known
ballads. It is hoped that this new compilation , where
they record for the first time their arrangements of
popular ballads alongside religious pieces, will
appeal to those of all faiths and none; and that in
these troubled times, where many are experiencing
hardship, their music may provide an encouragement
for the listener to reflect and to deepen their
relationship with God. Their music is played regularly
on Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday with Aled Jones.
