ARDEX Specification
For tiling on the Dincel Construction System with Ardex tile adhesives
1.1 SCOPE
This specification covers tiling on the Dincel Construction System with Ardex tile adhesives, internally in
areas such as bathrooms. (Note: when tiling in the shower recess area, please follow the Ardex
specification for “waterproofing on the Dincel construction system with the WPM002”.)
1.2 PRODUCT APPLICATION
All products are to be used in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
1.3 SURFACE PREPARATION
The Dincel wall must be dry, firm & free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, & other contaminant materials, as well
as being strong enough to support the weight of the tiles being fixed. Oily, greasy residues may be
removed by detergent washing and rinsing with water.
Ensure surfaces are dry before tiling, with no residual or permanent dampness.
If using the ARDEX WA100 adhesive, mechanically roughen (e.g. sand with 80 grit sandpaper) the
areas that are to receive the ARDEX WA100 adhesive spots.
1.4 PRIMING
ARDEX WA100 can be used without priming the surface using a notched trowel or spot fixing technique.
If using ARDEX Optima or STS8 + E90, priming is necessary with Ardex 82 Ultraprime. Please note this
primer is recommended for internal dry applications only.
Mix Parts A+B thoroughly at the mixing ratio 1:1 by weight or by volume. This mix can be applied
immediately, and is workable for about 60 minutes at temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius.
Apply a thin coat of Ardex P82 primer using a short nap or sponge roller, leaving a thin coat of primer,
no thicker than a thin coat of paint.
DO NOT leave any bare spots and brush out excess primer to achieve a thin coat.
Allow drying to a clear thin film before tile adhesives are applied.
1.5 APPLICATION OF THE TILE ADHESIVES
WA100: It is essential to use the correct mixing ratio of 1:1 Part A : Part B by weight or volume.
Before fixing, ensure the substrate has been prepared and the tile or stone is free of dirt or dust.

Remove dust with a stiff brush and remove any loose particles or dust from the back of the stone or tile.
The Ardex WA100 can be applied using a notched trowel, and although this adhesive is relatively stiff,
spreading with the trowel will achieve greater contact to both the tile and the substrate.
Apply spots of WA100 on the back of the stone or tile using a minimum of 5 spots applied evenly across
the back, one in each corner and one in the centre. Ensure at least 10% coverage is achieved with the
5 spots. The final spot thickness should be a minimum of 3mm and a maximum of 25mm. Any surplus
adhesive should be removed from the surface of the tile and joints, before the adhesive sets.
Optima: The mixing ratio of ARDEX Optima is 1 part liquid to 3 parts powder. Stir the ARDEX Optima
liquid thoroughly and pour the accurate measure into a suitable clean plastic container. Add ARDEX
Optima powder to the liquid whilst stirring with a mechanical paddle type mixer. Allow mixture to stand
for 2 minutes and re stir before use.
Before fixing ensure the substrate has been prepared & primed and the tiles are free from dust.
The substrate surface and size of the tiles will determine the selection of the trowel. As a general guide
use a 6x6x6mm notched trowel for walls. ARDEX Optima can be applied at a bed thickness greater
than 1mm or less than 8mm.
The tiles must be pressed firmly into the freshly combed mortar bed to ensure good contact with the
mortar. Slide the tile at right angles to notch pattern to ensure 100% coverage on the back of the tile.
Tiles with ribbed or keyed back profiles should also be buttered to ensure complete coverage. Lift a tile
from time to time to ensure that there are no voids beneath the tile. Any surplus adhesive should be
removed from the surface of the tile and joints, before the adhesive sets.
STS8 + E90: For 20kg of powder, mix 3.6L of E90 with up to 5L of water and add to the powder.
