Outcomes Paperwork Report:
Women’s Aid in Antrim, Ballymena,
Carrickfergus, Larne & Newtownabbey
In May 2009 a training day was facilitated by
Onus Training & Consultancy to demonstrate the
principles of the ‘Wheel of Life’. Using the ‘Wheel
of Life’ as a model, the Women’s Aid Outcomes
Wheel, Needs Assessment and Support Planning
paperwork was created by the Floating Support and
Community Resettlement Manager in consultation
with the Refuge, Floating Support, and Community
Resettlement Services and their clients.
Ten areas of need (to be assessed when a client would
utilise the services) were selected in line with the Basket
of Indicators detailed by SP and which incorporate the 5
high level SP national outcomes:
1. Domestic Violence / Safety Assessment
2. Housing Assessment
3. Dependents Assessment
4. Legal Assessment
5. Income / Financial Assessment
6. Physical Health Assessment
7. Emotional / Mental Health Assessment
8. Self Care / Living Skills & Drug/Alcohol Assessment
9. Support Network
& Cultural Needs
Assessment
10. Personal Growth
At the end of the pilot the feedback was extremely
positive from both staff and clients. Clients reported
the benefits of being able to visualise their journey of
progression on the wheel (distance travelled) and staff
reported the benefits of being able to capture a full
picture of the client’s support requirements with the
absence of unnecessary duplication.
Information sessions about the Outcomes Model have
also been facilitated for other Women’s Aid groups
regionally. As a result, another pilot commenced in
September and will run to the end of December 2010.
In January 2011 a working group will consider feedback
from staff and clients on a regional level with a view
to making amendments and improvements to the
current format. The aim is to create the final outcomes
documentation for Women’s Aid services by March 2011.
In August 2009 there was an
information session for all
staff and following this we
ran a four month pilot phase
September to December 2009.
Continuous feedback was
received from the various
teams throughout the period,
the aim being to ensure that
the Needs Assessment and
Support Plans were both client
led and outcomes focused.
As a result amendments
were made throughout the
process so that the paperwork
identified all the needs
associated with survivors of
domestic violence.
