2009-10 Key Accomplishments at Union CC • The College served more than 33,000 unduplicated students in credit and noncredit programs in FY 2010. • For the first time in College history, Fall 2010 credit enrollment reached 12,774 and total credit hours reached 127,744. • There was a 62-percent increase in the amount of financial aid disbursed from FY09 to FY10. The total aid disbursed for FY10 fiscal year was $33 million. • Counseling and other support services were enhanced to promote student success particularly for English as a Second Language students in engineering and health services programs. • Every classroom in the Kellogg Building became a multi-media classroom that is fully outfitted with a podium/media presentation system. • The Student Volunteer Organization led the College’s Haitian Relief effort, which included establishing a Center in the Lessner Building to serve the local families of the victims of the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake. • The Elizabeth Parking Authority began construction of a 1,500- space parking garage which will open in Fall 2011. The garage will provide expanded parking for 600 students, faculty, and staff on the Elizabeth Campus. • Facilities have been upgraded on all of the College’s Campuses. • On the Plainfield and Cranford Campuses, three newly created computer labs with new computer equipment were created this year as part of the Title V Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Grant Program (STEM). • Progress continued on the development of a new Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP). The new system, Datatel’s Colleague, will improve the College’s business operations, including student accounts, registration, payroll, bookkeeping, employee records, and purchasing. The Colleague system will be fully implemented this year. • A new network, server, and data back-up infrastructure was installed in 2010 to support the College’s enhanced ERP technology. • The Union CC Portal, Owl’s Nest, has been installed to serve as the hub for all digital transactions in the College. It will be rolled out in March 2011. • Contracts have been successfully negotiated with four unions: the American Association of University Professors, the Union CC Employees Association, the Union CC Physical Plant Association, and the Security union. • The College was awarded more than $7.9 million in federal and State grants—the most ever. • In FY 2010, the College received a federal appropriation in the amount of $400,000 for the “Green Workforce Service” project. • The College began offering an associate in applied science for the Paramedic Program. In 2010, program graduates once again achieved better than a 90 percent pass rate on the National Registry of EMTs Certification Exam, far surpassing the national average of 65 percent. • The men’s soccer team won the College’s first National Championship in Fall 2009 • The women’s basketball team won the Garden State Athletic Conference Championship for the fourth consecutive season in Spring 2010.
