RETROSPECT ON THE 77 th UIM GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Compared to previous years, the 2004 General Assembly has seen a record number with 175
attendants coming from 36 different nations.
From Monday through Friday, sixteen different Commissions and Committees did meet and on
Saturday the usual Open Form and the annual calendar meeting took place.
These Saturday meetings have proven to be an essential part of the weeks’ meetings.
The calendar meeting tempts to avoid clashes on the international calendar and allows the drivers
to schedule their racing season well in advance. On the other hand, the Open Forum prepares the
smooth running of the General Assembly on Sunday.
The G.A. – supreme body of the UIM – did vote on some 170 rule changes for it’s different
disciplines. Furthermore all Presidents and Members on the different Commissions were (re)-
elected and we now look forward to constructive cooperation with the new delegates and continued
partnership with the re-elected delegates.
In the meantime all minutes of the meetings have been circulated, the website has been updated
with the 2005 calendar and with the new composition of the Commissions.
Below you will find a review of our main coming winter activities and projects before we take the
start of another successful racing season.
UIM Publications
December – January is dedicated to update all rulebooks, to launch the annual UIM photo
competition and the production of the yearbook. We herewith ask all National Authorities to
respect the deadlines for providing us with the editorials for the yearbook since we go on print on
February 1, 2005.
All National Authorities and Council members have in the meantime received their personal copy of
the UIM presentation DVD. Copies can be ordered through the UIM Secretariat.
The former Newsletter (last publication September 2002) has now become obsolete since daily
updates of the website allow everyone to get the last minute announcements.
As informed at the Open Forum, the Bulletin 335 in its actual format is the last one to be
circulated to all UIM members. As you will notice from the content listing, most information
contained in the Bulletin is updated on a much more regular basis on our website. The additional
info in the Bulletin such as “Editorials – info from N.A.’s – publications as requested by
Commissions”, etc will be published in a Bulletin Format on the website.
All members will be informed by email – with direct website link that a new Bulletin is being posted.
For our communications with the 180 UIM delegates, only 7 members do not yet use or dispose of
email facilities. Those members will still receive hard copy of the Bulletin publication which will be
a paste up of our Website pages.
Any comments or feedback for the UIM website will be attended to.
This decision was taken to remain in line with the available modern technologies, to motivate people
to visit the UIM website on a regular basis, to avoid duplication of publications which are
contradictory at the end and last but not least to remain cost efficient.
We thank you for your understanding since the time-saving in administration will allow us to focus
on other projects for the future.
