Bristol Bay Native Association Resolution 2005-17 By the Full Board of Directors 15 Thanking H. Harvey Samuelsen, Sr. WHEREAS: Harvey was one of the original signatories on the Articles of Incorporation of the forerunner of the Bristol Bay Native Association, the Bristol Bay Area Development Corporation, on June 12, 1969; and, WHEREAS: Since that time, and with the support of his wife Florence, Harvey has unselfishly spent time away from his wife and family to actively promote the betterment of all of our lives in Bristol Bay and statewide; and, WHEREAS: Harvey provided both leadership and advocacy contributing to the settlement of land claims in Alaska; and, WHEREAS: Harvey worked for the former Alaska Division of Aviation from 1965 -1977, and he took the opportunity to advocate for better schools and quality education while moving between the many proposed airstrip sites; and, WHEREAS: Harvey has graciously hosted the state-wide Alaska Rural Development 2000 television program since 1997, providing a showcase for our Native culture and an avenue to open dialogue with leaders who have a major impact on our lives in Alaska; and, WHEREAS: Harvey has provided years of effective service for Alaskans through his past affiliations including Alaska Department of Fish and Game Advisory Board Member, President of the Tanuhok Indian Credit Association, Founding Director and First President of the Rural Alaska Marketing Association, Member of the Rural Affairs Commission, Board Member of the Alaska Federation of Natives, Director of the State of Alaska AYK Board, Director of the AT&T Advisory Board of America, Director of the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation, and past President of the Bristol Bay Native Association; and, WHEREAS: Harvey served honorably in the United States Army as a Field Commission Captain; and, WHEREAS: Harvey has spent close to 50 years as a commercial gillnet fishermen, and he has fought his entire life to enjoy and to protect a subsistence way of life for all of our people. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RE- SOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Bristol Bay Native Association give our deepest, most heartfelt thanks to Harold R. Samuelsen Sr. for a lifetime of unselfish, dedicated service to Alaskans everywhere; and, AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Directors takes this opportunity to honor Harvey with a special life-time achievement award for dedication in public service.
