Faculty member employed for a specific term in a benefits eligible position. "Specific Term" refers to a
probationary appointment as a faculty member with academic rank of assistant professor or above for a
term of one year, unless a longer term is specified in the contract. In no event shall the specific term exceed
three years.
Faculty member in a tenured position.
Faculty appointments that are not "Appointments for a Specific Term" or "Continuous Appointments". They
may be appointments to part‐time positions, appointments of less than one academic year, courtesy
appointments, appointments to volunteer status, annual appointments beyond retirement age,
appointments to the rank of insturctor, asistant instructor, lecturer or senior lecturer, appointments to ranks
preceded by the designation "visiting" and appointments supported by funds over which the University
cannot reasonably expect to continue indefinitely, provided that the total period of full‐time service on a
faculty Special Apppointment in the rank of instructor shall not exceed 7 years.
