ITINERARY OVERVIEW
Day 1: Depart Nelson, Christchurch to Singapore.
Overnight at airport hotel whilst in transit.
Day 2: Depart Singapore and arrive in Delhi. The capital
of kingdoms and empires is now a sprawling metropolis with
a fascinating blend of the past and the present. It is a perfect
introduction to the composite culture of an ancient land.
Day 3: Delhi. We will cover both Old and New Delhi, taking in
the narrow streets and sites by cycle rickshaw. Visit Rajghat, the
memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, Qutab Minar and Jama Masjid.
Day 4: Delhi - Udaipur. “Most romantic city of Rajasthan”.
This is the city where most Indian couples choose to get
married. The city is a fascinating blend of sights and sounds.
Day 5: Udaipur. Enjoy breakfast, then visit City Palace and
explore the bazaar down to the palace in the afternoon.
Day 6: Udaipur. After breakfast, explore Jagdish Temple and
Saheliyon-Ki-Bari. Explore a local bazaar and end your evening
with dinner and an overnight stay in Udaipur.
Day 7: Udaipur - Jodhpur. Experience the feeling of travelling
back in time while you catch a glimpse of this ancient Desert
City built on the edge of the Thar Desert. History oozes from
the city’s magnificent forts, palaces and temples. Named the
Blue City, it still retains its medieval charm.
Day 8: Jodhpur. Today we take our sightseeing tour to
Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India. The beauty
and grandeur of numerous palaces inside, narrates a saga
of hard sandstones yielding to the chisels of skilled Jodhpuri
sculptures. Then, visit Jaswant Thada and Old city - surrounded
by a 10km long wall that has 8 gates serving as entrances.
Day 9: Jodhpur (Incredible Rural Experience). Travel
through the desert in 4X4 vehicles. Visit the homes of
members of different communities such as the Bishnois,
Rajputs and Raikas. Dinner will be at one of the village homes.
Day 10: Jodhpur. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then you
are free to explore local markets for shopping.
Day 11: Jodhpur - Jaisalmer. Travel to the “Golden City”
built in 1156AD and located deep in the heart of the Desert
and famous for its Havellis and amber hued houses. The
afternoon is free for you to stroll through the streets and get a
glimpse of the lifestyle of the locals. Or, enjoy a therapeutic spa
treatment at our Hotel - an inexpensive treat for your body.
Day 12: Jaisalmer. Visit the 15th century Jaisalmer Fort and
palaces, Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Haveli. Conclude the
day with a camel safari on the sand dunes of the Thar Desert.
Day 13: Jaisalmer. Today enjoy leisurely breakfast then
the day is kept free to explore local markets for shopping.
Day 14: Jaisalmer - Gajner. Visit the Gajner Palace, used as
a Hunting Resort by Maharajas. Built on the banks of Gajner
Lake by Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh Ji of Bikaner in early 20th
century. The afternoon is free for you to relax.
Day 15: Gajner. Have a leisurely breakfast then go by
pushbike (optional) to visit a brick making factory.
Day 16: Gajner - Jaipur. We head towards Jaipur, the first
planned city of India. It’s a treasure-trove of culture, art and
history, famous for its colour, life style and Rajasthani cuisine.
The historic pink-painted sandstone architecture earned the
city the affectionate nickname of the ‘Pink City’.
Day 17: Jaipur. We head off on a city tour where we will
visit Amber Fort, the ancient capital of Rajasthan We will ride
elephants from the bottom to the actual Fort atop the hill. We
also visit the most amazing Jantar Mantar, one of the famed
observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh.
Day 18: Jaipur. We will go to Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace)
after breakfast. This palace was built in 1799 by Maharaja
Sawai Pratap Singh at a time when women of the royal family
had to observe strict purdah. Later we will go to a “textile”
village, then in the evening proceed for a home style Indian
Cooking class.
Day 19: Jaipur - Agra. Drive to see the city of the TAJ.
En-route we visit Fatehpur Sikri - a world heritage site. The
construction was started in 1571 but this city was abandoned
in 1884 due to scarcity of water. We then continue our drive to
Agra and the remaining afternoon is free to relax at the hotel or
explore the city.
Day 20: Agra. Wake up early for an optional Yoga session. We
then proceed to see the monument of love - the Taj Mahal. This
monument was created by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of
his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is the most perfect marble
built architectural monument in the world. We also visit a marble
inlay workshop to understand the work of the artisans.
Day 21: Agra - Delhi. Travel towards Delhi. Afternoon and
evening are free for any last minute shopping. Farewell dinner.
Day 22: Depart Delhi for Singapore.
Day 23: Arrive Singapore early morning. On arrival, transfer
to the hotel. The day is free to explore or relax as you wish.
Day 24: Depart Singapore in the evening for NZ.
Day 25: Arrive in Christchurch and then Nelson.
