Jain Vishva Bharati Institute (JVBI) : A Profile<br />
Jain Vishva Bharati Institute is a Institute of higher learning and research blended<br />
wi<strong>th</strong> spirituality, which came into existence in 1991. JVBI’s avowed aim is to<br />
integrate <strong>ac</strong>ademic knowledge and its application for evolving a new social pattern<br />
based on non-violence and pe<strong>ac</strong>e. “Right conduct is <strong>th</strong>e essence of knowledge”<br />
is <strong>th</strong>e motto of <strong>th</strong>e Institute. Every programme and every <strong>ac</strong>tivity is directed<br />
towards <strong>th</strong>e realisation of <strong>th</strong>is motto.<br />
The mission of <strong>th</strong>e Institute is to integrate modern science wi<strong>th</strong> ancient wisdom<br />
given to us by great spiritual pr<strong>ac</strong>titioners and visionary seers. The Institution<br />
seeks to interweave moral & spiritual norms and values wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e mundane and<br />
economic fibers of mankind to foster and develop universal human relationships<br />
for <strong>th</strong>e pe<strong>ac</strong>eful co-existence of individuals, groups, communities, sects, r<strong>ac</strong>es,<br />
sexes, religions, nations and peoples. The Institute provides reverential study<br />
courses in Jainology and Comparative Philosophy & Religion; Non-violence<br />
and Pe<strong>ac</strong>e; Science of Living, Preksha Meditation and Yoga; Prakrit and Jain<br />
Agamas; and Social Work for development of a more balanced human being<br />
and humanity.<br />
The <strong>Understanding</strong> <strong>Jainism</strong> Theory and Pr<strong>ac</strong>tice (UJTP) programme of <strong>th</strong>e<br />
JVBI emphasizes Jain Philosophy, E<strong>th</strong>ics, Non-violence, Meditation, Art &<br />
Architecture and life-style in India. It is interdisciplinary in nature, wi<strong>th</strong><br />
participating f<strong>ac</strong>ulty of <strong>th</strong>e Humanities, Social Sciences and Linguistics.<br />
Objectives<br />
i. To understand <strong>th</strong>e concept and ideas of <strong>Jainism</strong>.<br />
ii. To develop understanding and attitude of nonviolence.<br />
iii. To familiarize <strong>th</strong>e participants wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e philosophy of creative non-violence<br />
in India.<br />
iv. To impart training of Preksha Meditation for emotionally balanced life-style.<br />
v. To establish <strong>th</strong>e importance and relevance of amity for <strong>th</strong>e survival of<br />
living being.<br />

For PG Student<br />
Studies will be carried out on <strong>th</strong>e basis of s<strong>ac</strong>red Jain texts of Swetambar & Digambar tradition. Texts like<br />
Acaranga, Sutrakritanga, Bhagvati, Nandi, Dasvaikalika, Tattvar<strong>th</strong>a Sutra, Samayasar, Gommatsar etc.<br />
Study text could vary depending on <strong>th</strong>e need.
Indian Classical Language Orientation <strong>Programme</strong><br />
Keeping in view <strong>th</strong>e interest of international students in <strong>th</strong>e ancient and classical languages of India, a<br />
special programme of orientation in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Hindi will be organized during <strong>th</strong>e programme.<br />
Those who will participate shall be awarded one credit. The fee of <strong>th</strong>e programme will be $50 e<strong>ac</strong>h.<br />
Prakrit<br />
Prakrit capsule course will be dealt<br />
broadly wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e phonology and<br />
morphology. It will cover bo<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e<br />
traditional and linguistic pattern of<br />
te<strong>ac</strong>hing. To understand Prakrit, <strong>th</strong>e<br />
contemporary classical language<br />
Sanskrit will be compared wi<strong>th</strong>. Though<br />
phonology and morphology students will<br />
learn <strong>th</strong>e development of ancient Indian<br />
language <strong>th</strong>rough out <strong>th</strong>e ages<br />
beginning from <strong>th</strong>e sound system wi<strong>th</strong><br />
vowels and consonants, behavior of<br />
sounds etc. and parts of speech, in <strong>th</strong>e<br />
morphology and construction of<br />
sentences etc. will be in <strong>th</strong>e curriculum.<br />
Sanskrit<br />
Special Highlights of <strong>th</strong>e <strong>Programme</strong><br />
i. Visit to pl<strong>ac</strong>es of archaeological and historical<br />
importance in and around Ladnun.<br />
ii. Inter<strong>ac</strong>tion wi<strong>th</strong> spiritual personalities.<br />
iii. Meditation / Yoga session (morning session).<br />
iv. Visit to wild life sanctuary.<br />
v. Cultural inter<strong>ac</strong>tion wi<strong>th</strong> local people of <strong>th</strong>e<br />
town for better understanding of culture.<br />
vi. Trekking<br />
An introductory course on<br />
basics of Sanskrit will also be<br />
<strong>th</strong>e part of programme for<br />
willing candidates consisting<br />
of vowel, pronunciation,<br />
verbs, introduction to<br />
nouns, gender, alphabetical<br />
order, halanta and conjunct<br />
consonants, special symbols,<br />
dictionary pr<strong>ac</strong>tice and<br />
exercise.<br />
Study Tour<br />
A study tour of one week covering Jaipur, Pushkar, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Nakoda, Osiyaji, Bikaner etc. will be<br />
organized for <strong>th</strong>e participants. Fee $250/- per student. Date and o<strong>th</strong>er details are available wi<strong>th</strong> co-ordinator.<br />
JVBI Campus<br />
The JVBI campus is alcohol and smoke free. Only vegetarian<br />
food will be served. One has to observe <strong>th</strong>e campus culture.<br />
F<strong>ac</strong>ilities Provided<br />
Boarding and Lodging arrangements (A.C. Rooms) for students<br />
joining <strong>th</strong>e UJTP will be made in <strong>th</strong>e campus.<br />
Fee Structure<br />
For UG/PG <strong>th</strong>e course fee will be US $ 500 / EU 400 and US $ 600 / EU 450 respectively. For details of <strong>th</strong>e<br />

Hindi<br />
Hindi is one of <strong>th</strong>e major spoken<br />
languages in India and has a rich<br />
literature of over one <strong>th</strong>ousand<br />
years and can be compared wi<strong>th</strong><br />
any o<strong>th</strong>er developed language and<br />
literature of <strong>th</strong>e world. To understand<br />
Hindi, it is necessary to have preliminary<br />
<strong>ac</strong>quaintance wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e<br />
structure of <strong>th</strong>e language and<br />
linguistics future. This programme<br />
consists: language element,<br />
elementary linguistics and salient<br />
features of Devanagri scripts, Hindi<br />
and its subordinate languages and<br />
exercise of spoken Hindi.
Location<br />
The Institute is located in Ladnun, a small township in <strong>th</strong>e Nagaur District of<br />
Rajas<strong>th</strong>an (India), representing <strong>th</strong>e ancient Indian Gurukul tradition. Surrounded<br />
by sand dunes, it has a green leafy setting and pe<strong>ac</strong>eful atmosphere, which can<br />
make a person forget <strong>th</strong>e hustle and bustle of cities and tensions of a busy industrial<br />
life. Ladnun is 380 Kms. west of Delhi, <strong>th</strong>e Capital city of India, and 215 Kms. Nor<strong>th</strong><br />
West of Jaipur, which is known as <strong>th</strong>e Pink City and <strong>th</strong>e Capital of <strong>th</strong>e State of Rajas<strong>th</strong>an.<br />
It is well served by deluxe and express bus services from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner,<br />
Udaipur, Delhi and o<strong>th</strong>er cities. The nearest airports are Jaipur and Jodhpur.<br />
