(1) An application for admission to doctoral studies has to be made out in writing and directed to the dean of
the respective faculty. This has to be done at the beginning of the work on the doctoral thesis, but not later
than three months before thesis submittal. In the application, the candidate has to specify the working title of
her or his doctoral thesis. The working title of the doctoral thesis shall be fixed by the applicant in agreement
with a professor of Leibniz Universität Hannover or the natural science disciplines of Hannover Medical School
and the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation. A project outline of the intended doctoral
thesis has to be attached to the application.
(2) Teachers in the sense of these Doctorate Regulations are understood to be professors, assistant
professors, lecturers, and private lecturers of a scientific university. Junior group leaders having been
supported through a programme of a research promotion institution with external survey and whose respective
application has before been approved by the faculty council, will be equated with Leibniz Universität Hannover
assistant professors as regards their doctorate-granting right, i. e. the mentoring of doctoral candidates.
(3) The applicant has to attach to the application of admission to doctoral studies:
a) a CV including specification of the educational background, completed, if need be, by a full list of scientific
publications;
b) the proofs (in certified photostat) that admission requirements as per Sec. 3 have been met;
c) a declaration if she or he has filed an application for a doctoral procedure at another university or faculty
already before or at the same time; if so, full details have to be specified,
d) a declaration of readiness containing the working title and made out by a professor of the university
commitment is not available, it is a doctoral thesis which has to be prepared externally.
The faculty to which such admission application has been directed will be responsible for the doctoral
procedure.
(4) The admission to doctoral studies is decided upon by the responsible faculty. The application for admission
to doctoral studies and the records attached will remain at the faculty. The faculty may refuse admission to
candidates with externally prepared doctoral thesis, should a proper scientific assessment of the doctoral
thesis appear to be impossible.
(5) Through admission to doctoral studies, the doctoral candidate acquires the entitlement to the appraisal of
her or his doctoral thesis.
