Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science<br />

The Department offers two curricula of study leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in<br />

Computer Science.<br />

The two curricula are Computer Science and Computer Science with concentration in Information<br />

Security.<br />

Mission <strong>State</strong>ment of the Computer Science Program<br />

The mission of the Computer Science Program at <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>State</strong> University is to provide an<br />

undergraduate program in Computer Science that prepares students for a productive career and advanced<br />

study in the areas of Computer Science.<br />

Objectives of the Computer Science Program<br />

Program Educational Objectives are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain<br />

within a few years after graduation. The Program Educational Objectives, based on the needs of our<br />

constituencies, are as follows:<br />

from Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Management Information Systems<br />

Students in the program will interact with their instructors and will be offered timely guidance and advice<br />

about the program’s requirements and their career alternatives. Faculty will be available to students at least<br />

In addition to high school graduates satisfying the admission criteria, the Computer Science Program welcomes<br />

community college graduates and transfer students. Students who have completed an associate’s<br />

degree with a major in arts, education, sciences, or engineering are encouraged to apply for admission to<br />

the program.<br />
