Student Services Tutoring Services Quincy College’s tutoring services help students from all backgrounds reach their academic goals by helping them become better learners. The Nicastro Learning Center in Quincy and the Tutoring Center in Plymouth provide free tutoring services. Both peer and professional tutors work with students via drop in hours and appointments. Tutoring services are available both day and evening hours. We have one-on-one tutoring and small-group tutoring in most subject areas including English, ESL, Math, Science, Accounting, Computer Science, Nursing, Health Sciences, and more. We also have tutoring to improve academic skills, such as writing skills for any subject area, reading comprehension, study skill strategies, time management, and note taking. Our centers feature computer terminals at which students can access self tutorials and learning software to improve English and math skills. The Nicastro Learning Center is located on the Quincy Campus in Newport Hall Room 254. For additional information and hours, please call 617-984-1664. Appointments for tutoring at the Plymouth campus are made by calling at 508-747-0400. Online Tutoring Services Quincy College offers Smarthinking online tutoring services to its students. Online tutors are available to provide academic support in a variety of subjects, including but not limited to Math and Statistics, Accounting and Economics, Science, and writing across the curriculum. Career Center The Career Center at Quincy College provides a comprehensive approach to career counseling and advisement with a wide array of services, resources, and programs including: educational and career planning, job searches and placement, resume writing and interviewing techniques, and more. Call the Career Center for an appointment at 617-984-1662. Academic Support Test Preparation: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Structure, and Mathematics Skills The instruction and practice in this course is aimed at helping students improve their performance on standardized multiple-choice tests where a solid foundation in English sentence structure, reading comprehension, and mathematics is required. This is a non-credit course. Note: This is a refresher course designed for students who already have basic skills in English and Math. Only students who have achieved an Accuplacer score of 35 in Math and 55 in English can register for this class. Students must notify the Enrollment Office of their Accuplacer scores at the time of registration. Any variance to this policy will require a Dean’s approval. Quincy Campus NCN 115-40, 10 sessions, June 4 to July 9 $175 Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00 – 5:30 pm Plymouth Campus NCN 115-23, 10 sessions, June 4 to July 9 Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00 – 5:30 pm $175 Life Balance Coaching Life Balance Coaching supports students, in confidence and with appropriate referrals, to develop the plans they need to overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals. The Life Balance Coaching Office, located in Newport Hall, Room 241, North Quincy, is available to students who may be struggling with personal issues that are causing them anxiety or interfering with their academic performance. Life Balance Coaching is free, confidential, and available to all Quincy College students. Disability Services The goal of Disability Services at Quincy College is to minimize the impact of a student’s disability by providing reasonable accommodations. Services are determined individually, based on federal guidelines and Quincy College policies. Any student with a documented disability should contact Ruth Bork, the Disability Services Officer at 617-405-5915, rbork@quincycollege.edu, to ensure that reasonable accommodations may be made. Libraries Quincy College has libraries on both Plymouth and Quincy campuses. Resources include a collection of over 45,000 volumes consisting of both print and electronic books, subscriptions to over 100 print periodicals, online access to electronic research databases, and a diverse collection of audio-visual materials. Students may also request print materials from other libraries through an interlibrary loan request. The library website, www.quincycollegelibrary.org, is the gateway to all resources; providing links to the online library catalog, databases and helpful guides. The library is equipped with wireless access, computer labs, as well as a variety of study spaces. Printing is available for currently enrolled students. A valid ID and password are needed to access the print management system. Photocopiers are also available. Plymouth: The Bella S. Krovitz and Robert W. Krovitz Library opened fall 2011, which for the first time serves our Plymouth campus. The Krovitz Library is located in Cordage Park, Room 3, in Plymouth. Quincy: The Anselmo Library is located in Newport Hall, Room 103, in North Quincy, and is open during the summer semester. Students may call the Quincy library, for hours and more information, at 617-984-1680. Bookstore The Bookstore is located at 1357 Hancock Street in Quincy Center, near City Hall. Required textbooks, manuals, supplies and apparel are available at the bookstore. For additional information and hours, contact the bookstore at 617-773-4849 or visit the website at www.qc.bkstr.com. Rent-A-Text Program The college bookstore will offer textbook rentals for certain qualifying courses. Military & Veterans Programs Quincy College is pleased to welcome veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and their loved ones, to our college. We look forward to meeting your educational needs, and assisting you in navigating your education benefits with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We take pride in our ability to provide personalized assistance to all veterans and veteran dependents. Through the Quincy College Veterans Discount Program, Veterans may enroll in either Liberal Arts or Business & Public Service classes at a discounted rate. Veterans are eligible for this reduced rate regardless of the number of courses they take in a semester. The veteran discount program is not funded by the state or federal government; therefore, veterans who are eligible for education benefits through the VA may also receive the Quincy College discounted rate. Quincy College is a proud member of the Service Members Opportunity Colleges Consortium (SOC); we are happy to review both military and college transcripts, as well as CLEP and DANTES exam scores, for transfer credit according to American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations. Veterans, veteran dependents, and active duty service members are able to use their federal education benefits here at Quincy College. Programs we are approved to administer include Post 9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Tuition Assistance. International Student Services Quincy College’s International Student Services Office supports our new and transfer students, who come from 100 different countries around the world. We sponsor F-1 students and issue I-20’s. The office is located in Newport Hall, Room 244, 150 Newport Ave Ext., North Quincy, MA 02171. Parking Students are required to purchase parking permits to park in the Newport Hall parking lot.* Students may purchase permits for the entire semester in the Enrollment Office, Newport Hall, Room 120, in North Quincy. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must present their auto registration when applying for a parking permit. Quincy College is not responsible for theft or damage to students’ property or vehicles. Cars parked without a permit will be ticketed and/or towed at the vehicle owner’s expense. Tickets are payable to the City of Quincy. There is no reserved parking for Saville Hall in Quincy Center. Students are encouraged to use public transportation or park in area garages and on city streets. *This policy is subject to change for fall. MBTA Access Quincy College is conveniently located on the MBTA Red Line. The T stops right outside the door of our Quincy Campus at the Quincy Center and North Quincy T stations. To accomodate evening students, the north entrance of the North Quincy T Station will remain open until 10:00pm each weeknight. Food Service A café, located on the ground floor of Newport Hall in North Quincy, is open from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. Food is served at the following times: 7:30 am to 10:30 am (breakfast), 10:30 am to 11:30 am (snacks & beverages), 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (lunch), and 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm (snacks & beverages). Vending machines with hot and cold snacks are also located in the Student Lounge in Newport Hall, the second floor of Saville Hall and the lower level of Temple Hall. Student IDs All students are required to purchase a student ID. Every student must have a QC picture ID to access buildings and facilities. Students who already have a QC ID must update their IDs for the new semester through Enrollment Services or Information Technology at Newport Hall or the Plymouth campus front desk. New this fall! Quincy College is pleased to announce that we will soon be offering an exciting new Human Resources Certificate Program on our Quincy campus.
