2009 Apprenticeship Graduates!<br />
The 46 th group of graduating apprentices was honored at a Commencement<br />
Ceremony on June 11 th , 2009 at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadow Park,<br />
New York. On hand to congratulate the new graduates were officials from<br />
Enterprise Association Local 638 and the Mechanical Contractors Association,<br />
as well as representatives from the UA and several other Trade Associations.<br />

BTEA Leadership Dinner<br />
On May 15, 2009 the Building Trades<br />
Employers’ Association (BTEA) held its<br />
Annual Leadership dinner at Cipriani 42 nd<br />
Street. The BTEA is the nation’s largest<br />
construction trade organization representing<br />
over 25 Associations and 1,200 union<br />
contractors in New York City. Its continuing<br />
mission is to be the public voice and advocate<br />
for union contractors in New York City.<br />
Michael Russo, Executive Vice President of<br />
Fresh Meadow Mechanical, Inc., accepting the<br />
John A. Cavanagh Outstanding Service Award.<br />
MCA President Kenneth Durr,<br />
acted as Master of Ceremonies at the<br />
BTEA’s Annual Leadership Dinner.<br />
The dinner, which recognized the<br />
Economic Recovery Project Labor<br />
Agreement (PLA), was chaired<br />
by MCA of New York President,<br />
Kenneth Durr of Durr Mechanical<br />
Construction, Inc. Mr. Durr also<br />
acted as Master of Ceremonies for<br />
the event which featured an address<br />
by the Speaker of the New York<br />
City Council, Christine Quinn.<br />

John A. Cavanagh Outstanding Service Award.<br />

Industries, Ray Hopkins of the MCA, and Ray<br />
McGuire of CAGNY receiving the BTEA’s<br />
Association Executives “Special Recognition Award”.<br />

of the Mechanical Contractors Association.<br />
The BTEA also presented<br />
Special Recognition Awards to its<br />
Association Executives, including<br />

Contractors Association of New<br />
York, Inc. The executives were<br />
honored for their efforts in<br />
the development of the PLA.<br />

42 nd Annual Scholarship Awards<br />
Congratulations to our 2009 Scholarship Recipients!!<br />
This year’s six outstanding scholarship recipients<br />
were honored at a reception on May 21 st at Moran’s<br />
Restaurant. The winners were commended for their<br />
academic excellence and presented with engraved silver<br />
bowls along with sweatshirts from the colleges they plan<br />
to attend in the Fall. They also received 15-inch flat<br />
screen LCD-TV’s to furnish their dorm rooms!<br />
Each year the Steamfitting Industry Scholarship<br />
Program, in accordance with the rules of the program,<br />
awards six merit-based scholarships in the amount of<br />
$6,000 each to High School Seniors in order to assist<br />
them in furthering their education at a college of their<br />
choice. To date, the Promotion Fund has awarded 243<br />
scholarships, at a total cost of OVER ONE MILLION<br />
DOLLARS! This is an outstanding achievement for our<br />
industry.<br />
