FIELD MANUAL
FOR SPIRITUAL WARRIORS
Session 1: Origins of the Conflict
1. Before the creation of man, God created angels (angelos =messenger), spiritual
messengers, superior to humans, meant to serve God and God’s creation.
o Job 38:6-7
o Psalm 8:5
o Psalm 91:11; Matthew 18:10; Hebrews 1:14
2. God created angels with different ranks and assignments, their number being in the
millions.
o Ezekiel 1:5-6; Isaiah 6:1-3
o Daniel 7:9-10; Revelation 5:11
3. One of these angels, Lucifer (Shining Star or Morning Star), later known as Satan
(adversary) or the devil (accuser), may have served at the very throne of God.
o Ezekiel 28:13-15
4. Seeking to be equal with God, Lucifer, along with many other angels, rebelled
against God and was cast out of heaven.
o Isaiah 14:12-15
o Luke 10:18
o Revelation 12:3-4
o Matthew 9:33-34
5. Since Satan’s fall, some of evil spirits are already bound in hell; others roam the
earth.
o 2 Peter 2:4-5; Jude 6
o Luke 8:30

6. The intention of Satan and his evil spirits, evident in the fall in Eden, is to offer
human beings equality with God and to tempt them to sin against God.
o Genesis 3:5
o John 8:44
o 1 Peter 5:8
7. In spiritual warfare two kingdoms clash, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of
Satan.
o Luke 4:5-6; John 12:31
o Matthew 12:22-28
o Hebrews 2:14-15
8. Satan’s defeat was predicted in Eden and won at Calvary and will be ultimately
fulfilled at the return of Jesus Christ in glory.
o Genesis 3:15
o Colossians 2:15
o Revelation 20:10
9. In the meantime, Satan is turned loose in the world to deceive, tempt, lie, possess,
accuse, bind, confuse, rule, and oppose the purposes of God and God’s kingdom.
o Luke 8:12
o Luke 13:10-11
o 1 John 5:19
FOR REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION
How seriously do I take the devil and his evil forces?
Where in my experience have I seen the forces of evil at work?
What signs are there that the devil is still the prince of this world?
Do I ever sense being caught between the now of the devil’s influence and the then of his sure defeat?
