Pickaway County Courthouse 56
Building of the courthouse, located at the corner
of Court and Franklin streets, was begun in the fall of
1845. It was enlarged by the addition of two wings
in 1888 and was remodeled in the latter
part of 1889.

Logan Elm

Chief Logan Marker
It was here under a large elm
tree that in 1774, Tah-gah-jute,
the Mingo chief called Logan
was said to have delivered
his powerful speech on Indianwhite
relations, which was
translated and delivered to
Virginia Governor Lord Dunmore
at Camp Charlotte.
The speech is inscribed on this
monument at the park, worded
as it was related to President
Thomas Jefferson. Once considered to be one of the largest elms
in the United States, the 65 foot tall elm died in 1964 after being
stricken with blight and damaged by storms.
