SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
For Information
Report No. 13-09 IHSA.tv Proposal
Principal Eric Benson reviewed his report about IHSA.tv and the
opportunity to set-up live and archived broadcasts for Plano High
School athletic and extra-curricular events through the district
website. Tom Nieman from PlayOn Sports was present and gave a
presentation about the program, which is the only one endorsed by
the IHSA. Dr. Garcia said the high school administration will fine
tune the proposal and bring it for action to the next meeting. He
asked Board members to send him questions prior to the meeting,
if possible, so they can research and be ready with answers. Mr.
Benson said the high school will begin to get students interested in
the various aspects of the program, so they are ready to begin as
soon as possible if it is approved by the Board.
Report No. 13-10
Opening of Schools Reports
Dr. Garcia was pleased to announce a very smooth start to the
2012-13 school year. He thanked all of the administrators and staff
for their dedication to the children of the school district. He
thanked Mr. Porter for attending the opening day program.
Mr. Benson reported that Plano High School has an enrollment of
632 students. Ninety-five freshmen attended the Welcome Back
Picnic and over 900 students of all ages attended the first annual
Back to School Bash. The high school is revitalizing their PBIS
program for the 2012-13 school year in order to improve student
behavior and have a new supportive plan to increase student
accountability for learning.
Mr. Czyz said Plano Middle School had an opening day enrollment
of 373 students. He said that two additional faculty members have
allowed the middle school to expand the curriculum and master
schedule. They will double block math to provide the additional
time needed to improve the quality and depth of the math
curriculum. The middle school will focus on student learning and
achievement through PLC concepts and the development and
implementation of power standards and common assessments.
