This is the first part of a basic class for adult learners wanting to develop or 

brush up on their Japanese language skills.

Relocation Assistance Program 

Newcomers’ Orientation Welcome Aboard (NOWA) 

All accompanied (all ranks) USMC and USN, civilian employees, family 

members (military & civilian) age 10 and up, all unaccompanied USMC and 

USN (E-6 and above) are required to attend NOWA within two weeks of 

arrival. 

***ATTENTION SPONSORS*** 

Please call 645-8395/7494 to register both the active duty member and 

required family members once you receive the final flight information. 

Attendance is necessary for the newcomer to obtain the USFJ Privately Owned 

Vehicle (POV) Driver’s License. Please contact Base Safety at 645-3183/2862 

to inquire about taking the POV Licensing exam prior to attending NOWA. 

Childcare is provided on a limited space-available basis and must be reserved 

in advance. Note: Infant Care space is extremely limited. Sponsors should call 

645-4117 or 645-4062 for reservations as early as possible prior to the 

newcomer’s arrival. 

Transportation is available from the Westpac, Courtney Lodge, Hamagawa

The VA representative is here to assist transitioning military members, retirees 

and surviving spouses with educational services and assistance 

to beneficiaries. Transitioning military members will receive a 

full overview briefing at each TRS session. One-on-one appointments 

are also available. The Disability Transition Assistance 

Program (DTAP), covering the vocational rehabilitation 

program only, is offered monthly for all members being separated/retired 

due to medical conditions and for any member who 

believes they have a service connected disability.

Transition Assistance Management Program 

Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS) 

This workshop is required for active duty members between 90 days and one 

year of their date of separation or retirement. Unit Transition Counselors will 

conduct the pre-separation interview, initiate the DD Form 2648 and register

members are welcome to attend the entire seminar. It is recommended that 

service members attend the Pre-Retirement workshop one to two years before 

retirement.

26 week group for women who engage in abusive patterns of behavior, helping 

them to deal with ongoing issues in a supportive environment. 

Sound Relationships Group Tuesdays, 1000-1200 

4 week men’s group promoting the management of conflict and emotional regulation. 

Women’s Healing & Empowerment Tuesdays, 1430-1600 

Ongoing treatment group for mature teens and adults who have experienced trauma 

such as childhood abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. 

Healthy Thinking Group Wednesdays, 0900-1100 

6-session cognitive therapy group which teaches participants to identify and reduce 

false, illogical, or negative thoughts in order to manage issues such as depression, 

anxiety, eating disorders or anger. 

STOP Group Thursdays, 0900-1100 

26 week group for men who engage in abusive patterns of behavior, helping them 

to deal with ongoing issues in a supportive environment. 

Stress Management Class Thursdays, 1400-1600 

4-session class aimed at identifying stressful triggers of irritation and reducing 

stress levels by using useful coping behaviors to prevent stress from escalating. 

Anger Management Class Thursdays, 1400-1600 

4-session class aimed at identifying triggers, and learning effective coping behaviors 

to reduce levels of anger, and resolve conflicts. 

Couple’s Communication Enrichment

4 session group course to enhance your communication skills as a couple. Topics

Japanese Spouse Tea Time 


This group is offered in Japanese and is designed for SOFA Japanese spouses who 

are learning about military life and encountering intercultural issues or dealing

4-session support group that specifically addresses compulsive sexual behavior and 

consists of an educational and support component.

Baby Boot Camp assists in preparing expectant mothers and fathers to be confident

Moms In The Military 

There are many challenges associated with being a military parent. This small 

group-based class is offered to moms at any stage of pregnancy. Home visitors 

will educate parents to be on Marine Corps policy including housing information, 

legal requirements, on-island child care options and other family readiness 

issues. Military dads are welcome too! 



Home Visitation 

Home visitors work with families in a "one on one" setting to enhance their parenting 

skills and provide support to parents. The home visitor team consists of 

professional social workers and registered nurses with extensive knowledge of 

the issues encountered by today's parents. Call 645-0396 to register.

Screening Assessment 

Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor (DAPA) for active duty or through their 

Primary Care Provider for adult dependents and civilians. 

Substance Abuse Treatment 

Treatment is available for individuals who have been diagnosed with alcohol 

abuse, alcohol dependence, substance abuse/dependency and gambling issues. 

Case Management/Information and Referral 

This coordinates care before, during and after treatment, including residential 

treatment placement. 

Continuing Care Group 

The weekly Continuing Care Groups are for people who have completed treatment. 

The groups meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1500-1600.

Outreach and Education for Military Commands 

Outreach and education programs are available to meet the individualized 

needs of military commands. 

Alcohol Awareness - (Drug and Alcohol Screening is Required) 

This one-day class offers tools for people who may be at high risk of having an 

alcohol related incident or have had an alcohol related incident.

E F M P 

Exceptional Families - Exceptional Service 

Do you have a family member with a medical or special education need? The 

Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is designed to help Marines ensure 

continuum of care for family members with special needs. The purpose of 

EFMP is to provide coordination and support throughout the assignment process, 

ensuring the availability and accessibility of needed services for the family. Per 

MCO 1754.4B, Marine Sponsors are required to enroll a family member at the 

EFMP Office for a diagnosed Medical or Educational disability. 

Unit Training and command briefs are available upon request for educational 

purposes and as an augment to unit readiness. Unit Commanders should meet with 

EFMP staff annually to assess and monitor enrollment as per MCO 1754.4B. 

EFMP Respite Care is provided for a temporary period of rest to enrolled families. 

USMC EFM families are eligible for 40 hours of respite per month, at authorized 

reimbursement rates.
