Lake Havasu Unified School District
Lake Havasu Unified School District No.1 is a rapidly growing district. For the last five
years our district has experienced a growth rate in excess of 10%. Presently the district
has six elementary schools (pre kindergarten through 5th grade), one middle school (6th
through 8th grade), and one high school (9th through 12th grade). All of our elementary
and middle schools operate on a modified year-round calendar, while our high school is
on a traditional calendar.
LHUSD #1 also offers an alternative high school program for students in grades 10, 11,
or 12. This program is designed to meet the needs of students whose requirements can
be addressed by nontraditional instructional and scheduling methods. The “Round Table
Program” operates under the umbrella of the Lake Havasu High School.
The district offers a rigorous academic program for all students. In addition, programs for
the gifted and talented, special education programs, remedial, enrichment, and accelerated
programs at all levels, art, music, computer, foreign language, physical education,
phonics, language development, DARE, and Student Assistant Programs are offered in all
the elementary schools.
Thunderbolt Middle School utilizes the “middle school concept” in their instructional
methodology where “teams” of teachers work with student “clusters” in specific academic
and vocational areas. Students are involved in a number of interscholastic and intramural
athletic programs.
Lake Havasu High School is a comprehensive school offering a demanding academic
program for all students, including honor, accelerated and Advanced Placement (A.P.)
courses. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all students: college bound,
trade and vocational orientations, tech-prep programs, business and industry partnerships,
integrated and applied courses in math, science, foreign language, language arts
and vocational education. The school offers extensive co-curricular programs such as
drama, band and choir. Extracurricular programs include interscholastic athletics, Academic
Decathlon and numerous clubs/service sponsored activities.
Since its inception, Lake Havasu Unified School District students consistently outperform
the County, State and Nation in national norm referenced tests, such as the Iowa Test
of Basic Skills, the Test of Academic Proficiency, and the national SAT9 student achievement
assessments. The district continuously strives to ensure that our student success is
constantly evaluated, ensuring a quality curriculum with outstanding instruction.
As a quality organization, the Lake Havasu Unified School District
encourages parents, the business community, and other interested
citizens to work with school personnel in the constant improvement
of educational opportunities for all of our children.
