<strong>2009</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong>
Dear Friends,<br />
In <strong>2009</strong>, <strong>The</strong> <strong>Night</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> continued its successful provision of essential support to vulnerable members of our<br />
community on the streets of Chicago.<br />
In part, our accomplishments included:<br />
• Over 75,000 times, staff and volunteers on our Health Outreach Bus touched people in need, supplying<br />
food, free health care, hospital referrals, rapid HIV testing and companionship.<br />
• Our shelter programs not only housed 332 young people and their children, but also provided services to<br />
teach them self-sufficiency.<br />
• Our Youth Outreach Team expanded its work to the Rogers Park neighborhood in addition to Lakeview,<br />
where they have had a presence for the past 11 years.<br />
• 3,433 volunteers for <strong>The</strong> <strong>Night</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> spent 23,285 hours packing supplies, handing out food, or just<br />
being there when someone needed to talk.<br />
Though many organizations struggled, we are proud to say we neither cut any services, nor had to lay off any employees<br />
during this time.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Night</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> has grown over the past few years, delivering more assistance to more people in need. This growth<br />
has been prudently guided by our Board of Directors. Thanks to our donors, we had enough financial reserves to draw upon<br />
through these challenging economic times.<br />
80 cents of every dollar given to <strong>The</strong> <strong>Night</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> goes to our programs and services. This prudent financial<br />
management earned us a 4-star Charity Navigator rating for the fourth time in five years.<br />
Through it all, the support of our donors and volunteers is what<br />
allows us to provide all of these services – and so much more – that<br />
touch so many lives. Thanks to friends like you, we can continue our<br />
important work and be there for people in our community when they<br />
need us the most.<br />

Our Mission<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Night</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> was created out<br />
of diverse religious traditions to<br />
build relationships with vulnerable<br />
youth and adults on the nighttime<br />
streets. Today, we build relationships<br />
in a variety of settings. Through<br />
these relationships and the provision<br />
of housing, health, spiritual, and<br />
social services, we seek to empower<br />
people of all ages to meet their own<br />
needs. Recognizing the uniqueness,<br />
dignity, and value of each person,<br />
we accept individuals as they are,<br />
in an affirming and compassionate<br />
manner. We call the larger<br />
